Bethany and other members who read this:

AdoptionForums.com is a support forum – NOT a networking tool to find available children.

If you are genuinely interested in fostering children in need, regardless of how that need came to be, please contact your local Children’s and Family Services agency for your county.

At this time, it is premature to foresee the need that results from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. There is, however, always a need for foster parents, so make the call today!

i highly doubt they are anywhere near knowing which children are truely left without any family. it would be highly premature to think that there are already children identified without any extended family. there are still people being rescued. it will take months if not years for all familial relations to be exhausted for children that may have lost one or both of thier parents. i know we are due to get about 2000 hurricane survivors in the next couple of days. the survivors are going to many different cities and states and it could take some time to reconnect familes sent to different areas. i think it would be more practical to see what local social services need to help these families till they can be reunited.

I understand your concern for the children, but it is very early to discuss adopting a child from the disaster. It has only been a few days, the authorities will be working on reuniting families for months to come.

Kathleen,

You should contact your local Department of Child and Welfare Services/Social Services office. Any children left without families from this disaster will become wards of the state, who will then seek permanent families for them. I'm certain that DFAS/DFYS/DCS or whatever it's called in your state would welcome your joining the program as foster or foster-to-adopt parents.

Regina
