Okay! I have figured out something that I need
I need to find a piano teacher for Rhory and a good Mother's Day Out program (2 mornings a week) for Mary Lynn in The Woodlands, Texas. Anyone out there from The Woodlands or know someone who is? I'm trying to learn my way around this place
I lived in the New Orleans metro area for 20 years and knew it like the back of my hand. Now I have to learn to find my way around here and I'm feeling as dumb as every hair on my artificially blonde head! ![]()

I wish I could help, but not in the area. Do your kids need any books, clothes, shoes, etc.? Please, don't be afraid to ask.
PM me if you do.

Grew up in Houston
Hi!
I grew up in Houston, but on the west side of town. You are on the north. For Mother's Day out, I would look at churches. I know a lot of Methodist churches have MDO. Be sure to stick with The Woodlands. Houston is spread out and overwhelming. Maybe you could find out about piano lessons from your son's school or other moms you meet at your son's school. The Woodlands is a nice area. I am sorry you are having to go through this adjustment. Allison Mom to Daniel, home 1/2004 Waiting for Ruth |

Heidi,
I'm not in TX either, but I know that alot of our friends find piano teachers through their church music directors or through local music shops. Hope that helps! Wishing we could do more for you all.. ~hugs~ Kim

I send my 4 year old to Primrose School. I just checked their webpage and there is one in The Woodlands. Top notch programs and a great learning program. Try them! The one here in my town, Concord NC, is wonderful and has a morning out program. Each school has to follow the same program.

I am in Houston (but approx 60 miles south of you) I am not too familiar with daycare/piano programs north of the city.
That said, I just wanted to say that I am praying for you..and if you need navigational tips, a shoulder to cry on (or a coffee to talk over) I love to help. Blessings, Mary |

Thanks everyone!
It looks like we will be here for awhile as our house has significant damage. My hubby is there now trying to salvage what he can. The authorities are only letting people in for 3 days and we have to stay out for 6 weeks. Then we have to figure out what to do about our house. Bulldozing it is looking pretty good right now. I know the things I am looking for seem trivial given the losses that so many others have suffered but I'm trying to start over and get back to something as close to normal as possible for my children. Because we need the money, I am going to be trying to do some substitute teaching here. (I was a 3rd grade teacher in N.O.) and I need to find a nice little preschool/daycare for my daughter. I'm also looking for a piano teacher for my little boy who is 9. He has been taking piano for 4 years and he doesnt want to get rusty. His piano and his room were destroyed in the hurricane but he doesn't know that yet. And last and probably the very least, I need to find a hairdresser in the area . I had an appointment scheduled for last week with my hairdresser in N.O. and am in desperate need of a haircut. Thanks so much to everyone for their suggestions.

You might look to the people on craigslist for suggestions too. They have categories for 'lessons' and for 'child care'. Hairstylist may be more tough, though I bet if you posted it out there people would make recommendations. Usually when I'm in a new town I look for 'best of' contest winners from local magazines or newspapers.
My son's bfamily is south of Houston. I called them but again, they don't know the Woodlands very well and couldn't make any specific suggestions. Best of luck as you get settled. I hope your house can be repaired/rebuilt quickly though. Like Dorothy once said - there's no place like home. Regina

I need to find a nice little preschool/daycare for my daughter. I'm also looking for a piano teacher for my little boy who is 9. And last and probably the very least, I need to find a hairdresser in the area I had no idea that hurrican katrina hit LA also. i am so sorry....you will be in my prayers. i wish i could help you with all the things that you need. but i could only spread myself so thin, that i sent money out to the red cross, and dropping off clothes and toys at the salvation army for the families that have nothing. your family will be in my prayers, as countless others, and i hope you find a good hair dresser. my young boys have used their own money from their banks to help the kids that are left with nothing...ill see if they can part with the rest to help with your sons piano lessons so he doesnt get rusty. Dear Dad,
I originally posted this on another forum that has members who know me and ASKED me what I needed. I know my needs may seem trivial to you and they very well might be compared to what some people have lost. Yes we had insurance but insurance doesn't cover all that we owe on a house that is no longer worth anything. My husband and I have spent TWENTY YEARS working hard to provide a stable life and a comfortable home for our children. We lost our home, our hometown, our community, our church, my job and I am trying to start over in a place I know nothing about. I am trying to bring some stability into a very stressful situation for our family and my children. They too have lost everything they knew. I am not asking for people to pay for my son's piano teacher, I'm asking if they know of one in the area. I need a daycare for my daughter because I am looking for another job because my husband and I are STARTING OVER after 20 years of HARD WORK! The wonderful lady who kept my son when he was a baby while I worked and my daughter since she was 6 months old while I worked and was like a grandmother to my children evacuated with her family to I have no idea where. The last thing I said to her was "Have a good weekend. I'll see you Monday" WRONG! And I need a hairdresser because I need to get my darned hair out of my eyes!!! Donations of food and clothing are wonderful because Lord knows the people of MY hometown need it but sometime a little compassion would be nice too. Brandy, could you please delete my post from this forum? I don't like it here!

Heidil87 ~ Sorry that you felt the need to ask that your post be removed as you "don't like it here". Perhaps it would help to keep in mind that many of us only know what we see on CNN or Fox News, etc. When you started your thread on Friday, many of us were still seeing people stranded at the Superdome, sitting on their roofs or on the highway waiting for food, water and aid of any type. To be honest, when I read your thread on Friday, that you had "finally thought of something you needed" and it was a piano teacher and a Mom's day out group, I thought to myself, "Wow ~at least someone made it out of there relatively intact and had to put effort into trying to think of something they needed and this is what they came up with". You yourself referred to what you were asking, as "trivial given the losses that so many others have suffered" need. I believe that dadfor2 was simply echoing your sentiments.
We all have our own needs and priorities. One of my personal passions is my four legged children and in addition to volunteering with the Red Cross, I have donated to the Humane Society and spent the last few days promoting awareness about the four legged victims of this tragedy. I started a thread about the plight of the animals but I waited until Saturday to start the thread. While to me, the plight of the animals is a life and death situation, I was afraid that some might also find it "trivial" when so many people are still in need of the most basic of life sustaining supplies ~ food and water. Even today, when you post about your need for a hairdresser, we're seeing on the news that people are searching for their loved ones that they haven't heard from in a week, sleeping on cots with thousands of other people, there are still people in need of food and water and existing in disease infected water. And, yes ~ many people refusing to leave their beloved pets behind and thus putting themselves at risk. What I'm trying to say, is that everyone has their own priorities. I'm truly sorry for the disruption in your life and everything that you have lost. But to those of us that are trying to help those that truly have nothing by contributing to the various charities with money, clothing and pet supplies for displaced animals, or volunteering with our time to help charities from our many far away locations, perhaps some may indeed agree with you that what you are asking may indeed seem "trivial given the losses that so many others have suffered". But, it is what you need as you attempt to "bring some stability into a very stressful situation for our family and my children". I wish you the best as you continue to deal with everything, as I wish all that have been affected by this tragedy.
