Funny you should mention needing a good hairdresser! Our team of relief workers have been complaining about the same thing. All of them were given about 2 hours notice to hit the road and (especially after working 20 hour shifts for over a week) they have had no time to find a salon or barber either. It's hard to focus on things when your hair is such a distraction, I'm sure.
Me? I just shaved it all off with a #3 guard and said to heck with it. It takes a little getting used to, but is virtually maintanance free. Guaranteed to stay out of the eyes! lol! I've spent hours on craigslist trying to match people with necessary services...don't recall seeing any cosmotologists offering services. Maybe the yellow pages could be of assistance. At least there is phone service in your area. As far as "showing a little compassion," I think the posts here on the forum are just dripping in it. I'd be more than happy to send some clippers with my daughter when she makes her next run with supplies. Sorry about your son's piano. NPR spent the the day Sunday interviewing some many of the known musicians from NO...I love what one (think it was Connick) said. "The music is in me...and I survived. Hope your son will hold the same positive attitude. My heart really goes out to you and your loss. If some of the posts make you feel uncomfortable, just remember that there are many former residents floating along side the rotten food, debris and decaying animal carcuses. Guess we get a little blinded with the tragedy of broken families and missing loved ones. Just yesterday a man was interviewed. His words were: "One minute I look down and my wife was right her with me. The next minute she be gone." Swept away. SO deeply sorry about your loss. ~Deb |

heidei,
i will say i am sorry.... I had no idea that hurrican katrina hit LA also. as you can see, i thought you lived in LA calf., as brandy pointed out to me, that i had made a mistake. i thought this thread was a tasteless joke. and while i watch the news since the hurricane hit, it has made me so numb and then to come across this thread with the title of "okay, i figured out something i need" i guess when i saw those people, the words "help" came across their mouths so often, that i dont think any of them actually had to think about what they needed. so i do apoligise, but my abbreviations for certain states isnt that great. with all the losses people have sustained, i really couldnt wrap my mind around the things that you felt you needed. so im sorry. |

Heidi - check with the local junior college or university's music department. They may allow your son to use their equipment and you may find a student that is willing to donate some time to teach him.
