My guy and I took our puppies on their very first 5K race! It was a fun run/walk and dogs were invited so... We had a blast and finished...last. Yes, at the very end. No one else behind us. Of course, we had a couple extra challenges...our puppies were a little nervous at first, so we held way back until everyone was a good fifty feet into the course. Then, each of the puppies had to do their business so that took a little time (especially since we only planned for each of them to do it once and one pooed twice so we had to find a piece of garbage in the ditch to pick the mess up with to dispose of properly!). Then, I needed to do my business and since I didn't feel comfortable squating on the sidewalk, I had to jump a fence and take a detour to a port-a-potty. Then, when the runners with the jogging strollers came past us on their way back to the start/finish line, the pup on my least kept knocking me off the sidewalk because she is afraid of strollers (aparently.) Finally, we took a quick break to let the dogs have a drink of river water and one of the dogs fell in the river! I think she is the clumsiest dog ever. The river cut sharply into the bank so the water was way over her head and we had to act fast to haul her out before she was swept away by the current. Luckily, my guy knows how clumsy she is and was prepared to help her out. At the end of the "race" we could have passed a family, but their four year old was trying so hard to stay in front of us and "win" that we just couldn't break her heart...She finished about two feet in front of our dogs noses. We had so much fun that we plan to do any other 5Ks that we hear about and this is the season for fun runs... (Our time to beat is one hour, fourteen minutes!)

That was hilarious FREE....sounds like you, your sweetie and the puppies had a fantastic time at the "race". So thoughtful of you to let the little one "beat" you....LOL Winning isn't really what counts, it's the fun of participation and completion. Next time you even have a time goal to beat....LOL. Congrats to your sweetie for his weight loss. Hope you'll see some
I am still "incapacitated"...... but am finding my appetite has shrunk. I'll be starving and make a plate of food, only to be full 1/2 way thru my little portion. Hope that continues as I'l be very FRUSTRATED if I gain many (any) ounces, not to mention pounds. My physio therepist had me doing 10 mins on the bike this week with 0 resistance. I might consider going to the gym this week end. The sit ups and weight toning isn't fullfillig my desires. I have alot of negative and frustrating things happening around me right now, which is getting me down. Need something to change my outlook and give me some oomph..... Keep up the positive outlook. HUGS! "K"

I'm sorry you are going through so much stress. I am so proud of you for staying on course and trying to keep the weight down, despite everything. Keep up the good work.
I'm going through a lot of stress these days too. My guy just got a new job (which is great) but, I will be losing my health insurance for 6 weeks...We are trying to figure that out because it is VERY bad and potentially VERY VERY expensively catastrophic for me to be uninsured. I'm still trying to exercise and eat reasonably. I'm trying. |

I'm here guys !!
Sorry I've been so quiet...but I really don't have much to report. My weight is staying the same, no matter WHAT I do ! It is very frustrating. But I will not cave in and just eat anything and everything, ( like I would normally do ). I guess at this point, I will just have to be satisfied with "maintenance". Oh well....Free....that 5K sure sounded like alot of excitement and fun ! And your descriptive writing of the event made me able to picture it as it was happening !!! The pup fell in the river ??? YIKES !!! Next race you will have to put "waterwings" on her ! And yep...like Kat said...nice of you to let the wee one beat you. You have a big heart Free...and it will come back to you a hundred fold ! Now...the wedding day is creeping up isn't it....so how are you doing with all the plans ? We need an update...as Kat and I are "detail gals" Good to see this thread still going. And you two keep up the good work ( but Kat...you be CAREFUL !!! ) |

Nice to see you back here Jane. Sorry to hear that nothing is working for you. After all those heart work outs you deserve a -1 at least.
Free....I forgot to tell you about the "surprise" I received on MOTHER's DAY. After spending a deligtful dinner with my 2 sons and DIL, I was relaxing and picked up my laptop. I received an email saying I had a FACEBOOK message from my DD...... Just a little note to say you weren't forgotten today. XO JA I am wondering if bouncing off the ceiling is a positive form of exercise??????? (hope I don't fall) I walked a little bit today without the crutches (5 wks so far with the stix)and with minimal pain......woohoooo. The therapist says I could be healing a little bit, but not fast enough for my liking. A funny thing happened to me this morning. I started rummaging thru my closet looking for something to wear. Ended up having to iron a linen top to wear with a skirt. Got showered and started dressing..."finery", stockings, top and then the skirt. Did up the zipper and button. Smoothed everything down just as the Skirt fell to the floor............ I have nothing to wear....LOL Think it's time to haul out the sewing machine and make some alterations. Can't get out shopping and don't really want to buy a new wardrobe YET! Yes, Jane's right (but don't tell her I said so)....we are detail orientated people. Need DETAILS about the wedding plans. Pictures are even better (lol) Hope al goes well with your sweeties job change and the conflict about health insurance. I can't imagine being without it....YIKES...especially now. I, too, am contemplating applying for a new position. It's not really a promotion but a different capacity of law enforcement and still within the same dept. I'm not 100% sure that i want it just yet, but the physical requirements are going to become more stringent after this competition. I've been advised to strike while the iron's hot...LOL. Have another week to make up my mind and submit my resume. All and all, this week has given me a more positve outlook and might just be the ooomph I needed. Catch y'all later. HUGS! "K"

Free, you should be able to get continuation of coverage for the time you are in limbo. Check the COBRA rules or state continuation rules if it is a small business with the group benefits administrator of his company. This should give you some peace of mind although it is entirely at your own cost. I am an insurance broker here in VT so if you have any trouble let me know. It should be pretty straight forward.

Hi everyone! Wow, its been busy in the last day...
As far as insurance is concerned, COBRA would cost us over $1500. We just couldn't do it. We did find some short term health insurance for a reasonable price. It covers nothing pre-existing, but we're both doing fine right now with no issues, so that isn't a problem. We are primarily concerned about chainsaw accidents and trees falling on our heads and this policy covers things like that. (We try to be very careful, but our lifestyle is fairly dangerous. We love it though and don't want to change that aspect.) As far as exercise is concerned, I feel so sneaky! Yesterday, I said to my guy, "Guy. If you cook dinner, I'll use my elliptical machine." He agreed! How great is that? I worked out for 28 minutes. (So close to 30, but I just couldn't bear it for another moment.) Then, I ate a REASONABLE portion of steak and a yummy salad. I skipped the mac 'n' cheese. (Actually, I had him make the yellow mac 'n' cheese because I don't like it! If he had made the white cheddar kind, I would have eaten half the box!) Okay...wedding stuff. I have my whole outfit. My dress is fitted, I found the one strapless bra in this entire town that fits me. My stepmom found white ballet slippers and sewed little blue flowers onto them (Something blue). I have borrowed jewelry with (fake) pearls and crystals from a friend and my mom made my veil, which also has pearls and crystals. The bridesmaids and groomsmaid have their dresses and so do the flower girls. (My birthdaughter and her sis are both in the wedding and have their dresses!) My almost 5 year old nephew, the ring bearer, has his tux. He convinces my mom to let him "try it on" almost every day and then won't take it off. It will probably need to be cleaned before the wedding! He calls it his "Bruce Wayne outfit." (Bruce Wayne is Batman when batman isn't being a super hero. The kid is obsessed.) My guy's sister is a baker and will be making our cake. Mmmmm. I'm excited about that. I love cake. Oh wait...this is a weight loss thread, isn't it? |

Kat-I almost fell off my chair reading about your lovely skirt. That is great news. I'm also so happy to hear that you got a rememberance note on Facebook. That has to be great. I'm sure you were bouncing off the ceiling. (And yes, that actually counts as double exercise. Extra endorphins, you know.)

Oh-I almost forgot...I was trying on clothes, trying to find an outfit for the wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. It was an unbearably frustrating experience that pretty much sucked because I couldn't find a single outfit that looked decent. The town I live in has almost no clothing selection and all of the clothes that are in my size are either frumpy fat old lady clothes or so hideously god-awfully patterned that only a circus clown should wear them. I did, however, grab the biggest skirt from one of the racks and tried it on, even though it was a size smaller than I usually wear, and it fit! I couldn't find a single shirt to wear with it though, so on the rack it stayed. (It was even a fitted skirt, not an elastic waisted skirt. It was really pretty-form fitting, but not too tight linen on the upper part and flaring from lower thigh down, ending at the mid calf.

Hey gang, how's it going? FREE... the wedding is fast approaching, is it not? You know we naturally wanna see pics and hear all the details ....via emails of course....if u prefer.
Not much happening with me. My mobility is limited so to compensate, I am TRYING to eat less and healthy. I think my knee is starting to heal a bit. .....or I am being overly optimistic. I can wobble around inside without the crutches. Our weather has finally decided to be more spring like. Today it bounced up to 29'C. Hopefully we won't bound into the heat of summer too quickly. Keep up the great work, everyone! "K"

One month and counting...I have way too much to do. I am almost ready to panic...
I am not losing any weight...gained a pound or two. Bleehgh. My guy has lost about ten pounds in the past couple months. I'm a little jealous. He now weighs three pounds less than me. (I'm trying to be happy for him, but I don't think it is fair.) |
