Julianna, I am glad you have a real life weight loss partner.
My guy just decided to jump on the bandwagon with me. It is exciting. We had several unexpected events yesterday, but still managed to get some exercise yesterday. We went on a walk together. It was actually fun-we walked and talked and watched our puppies frolic in the woods. I also FINALLY bought my elliptical machine! I made a deal with my guy that if it ever goes one month without being used, he can get rid of it. I haven't set it up, yet, but hope to before the weekend is over. Gotta burn off Thanksgiving dinner, right? |

How'd we all do on Thanksgiving?
I did fine on the dinner, and then got rid of temptation by giving the leftovers (pie and whipped cream included) to my college student nephew who joined us because he lives too far from home to go for Thanksgiving. We had over half a turkey left, and he's got 6 big guys in his apartment... So there you have it! Still working on the Halloween candy. When we got back from trick-or treating, I took about half of the candy away (they never noticed - they got TONS) - and am allowing myself one piece a day... (THEY get one after each meal, so it's almost gone. - yes, they really got tons.) It's gettin gdown to the dregs - the stuff I don't really like. All the peanut butter cups are gone... So I might just chuck the rest. Why eat candy I don't love, just because it's there?

I did terrible on thanksgiving. I ate so much that I could hardly move afterwards. I did, however get my butt moving and went for a mile long walk with a friend, my niece and nephews and her son. About halfway through the walk, my 4 yo nephew says "I'm tired!" and I ended up carrying him the rest of the way. Then, I ate more food. (Had to replace those burned calories, ya know!)
As far as left over desserts were concerned...NOT A PROBLEM! My neice spent the night. She was sleeping on the floor upstairs. The upstairs floor is made out of 2X6 boards that have shrunk as they dried so there are 1/4 to 1/2 inch gaps between them. Downstairs, the pies were sitting on a table because noone put them away. Lots of pies and pecan bars and breads and cookies...Lots of desserts. In the middle of the night, I woke up hearing a stream of liquid landing on the downstairs floor...I thought. Immediately, our barely housebroken pups were blamed and sent outside, but we couldn't find a puppy piddle puddle anywhere. Then, my poor, embarrassed little niece told me she wet the bed...I helped her get cleaned up, then walked to the area downstairs, directly underneath her little pallet upstairs...Bullseye! puddle of pee in the middle of all the desserts. They didn't look very appetizing after that! |

Cannot stop laughing!!!!
Your poor niece. did you tell anyone else? Maybe that should be a secret that should go to the grave with both of you. That one could never be lived down! Not in 100 years.

Hey, where did everybody go?
You gals must be busy, haven't heard a peep in a while.
Here is a joke someone sent me that may give you a giggle to start the year off. It's called the Purina diet. Happy New Year All! Yesterday I was buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for Athena, the wonder dog, and was about to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog In response to this stupid question, I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, instead I was starting the Purina Diet again. I said I probably shouldn't because I ended up in the hospital last time. However, I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in ICU with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her it was essentially a perfect diet and the way it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in the checkout line was by now enthralled with my story Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's *** and a car hit us both. The guy behind her in line was laughing so hard I thought he was going to have a heart attack!

I love it! The Purina diet!
I took a bit of a break. Needed to get in a good mental place before starting my efforts anew. But, with the new year and my new elliptical machine and my new cabin and my quickly approaching wedding, I am ready to work hard. My guy and I have decided that during January, we are not allowed to go out to eat at all...unless someone else invites us. It has been working well so far. We are able to eat anything we want, as long as we cook it at home. (Eating healthier at home comes next month...baby steps to a better lifestyle.) I have also been using my new elliptical machine. So far, I have used it three times. Great workout. I enjoy it and it is convenient. I just need to keep it up. I am going a little longer each day. How is everyone else doing? |

HEY GALS, How's it going? Like the rest of you, have been too busy to post. during my physical last month, I was informed that my cholesterol skyrocketed....ironic isn't eat. Eat everything in site for many yrs, then last yr started eating healthy an now this..... Having a "heart history" on my paternal side and considering the fact my dad had quad. by pass at 61 yrs old, both my DR. and I are treating this serious. He put me on medication (crestor) and I am controlling the diet....My goal is: no meat, no dairy (except milk on my cereal and in my coffee) nothing fried and while I am at it, practically nothing "white"..... Christmas week I did falter a wee bit, but nothing in comparison to my previous habits (I had a slice of left over beef in a sandwich sandwich and sampled some Brie chesse)
Each week I have made a big pot of veggie soup/stew and that is my "staple" sometimes I will bake some fish as an additive. I have discovered 12 grain bread and that is definately the "Kats" meow. Eating plenty of fiber, fruits and veggies. On a positive note, I lost another 10 lbs.... bringing my grand total to 50.2 lbs!!!! It's a NEW YEAR so time to set NEW GOALS..... Stay positive! HUGS! "K"

Wow Katnap! You are doing awesome! 50 pounds! That is my goal. Yep, you are my goal.
No, actually, toned arms and 40 pounds is my goal for right now. I am waivering a bit, but doing okay. I am not gaining and I have earned a -5# prize. I keep teetering right at that mark and am going to try to knock it down a pound this week. (I started very poorly by having a sugary latte with whooped cream and a cookie this morning. Oops.) My guy and I have been working hard to not eat out 4 times a week. We have gone out to eat together once this year and I have done two work lunches. That is way better than the 10-15 restaurant meals we ate during two weeks in December! |

Jen- I feel the same way about wanting to lose weight before getting pregnant. Are you already trying or is it sometime in the future? I am planning on starting to try in about a year.
My guy and I have done GREAT with not going out to eat. We only went out for dinner once this month. (I HAVE to eat out at least two or three times for work meetings, so I had a few other restaurant meals.) Anyway, we figure that we saved around $400 over the month. Crazy, isn't it? We plan to continue in Feb. |

That's great Free....
I actually joined a gym this week and am seriously looking into the nutrition option as well (have to see if it will work with my shift work and complicated lifestyle). the program "guarantees" a 2 lb per week weight loss.Another -100 lbs would find me at my "ideal" weight (although it might be too skinny for my large bone frame) I have been really good with my actual eating, but need some "professional" input. I, too, have skipped the takeout and don't really miss it....LOL How are the resy of you dong?....Janie????

Yeah....I'm still here.
I had another heart stent put in the first week of January, and just finished my second week of cardiac rehab. It is mainly for "heart healthy"....but the entire program goes with diets, classes, exercise, etc. All under a controlled environment, while hooked up to heart monitors etc. SOOOO, I am hoping THIS will get me back into the swing of things soon. I haven't lost any weight in these two weeks, which I was SURE I would have by now, but I know I am eating healthier, and LESS !!!! And I now reach for the sensible snacks, and not the chips and dip ( not saying that I don't miss them though )As for eating out....we do it very rarely, usually just when we are away for the entire day, or on vacation. Glad to see everyone here. Jen....sorry to hear you were sick. That's a yucky way to lose the weight, but try to keep it off....that's the tricky part, eh ?? Kat- do NOT "overdo" with this gym thing. I KNOW you....and you need to slow it down sometimes !!!! ( said with MUCH love, as you know )Free- wedding fast approaching....sounds like you are doing GREAT ! You will be a beee-yooo-teee-ful bride, no matter what. ![]() |

Well, I don't feel like I'm doing great. Despite upping the butt moving and not going out to eat and trying to eat reasonably, nothing is happening. My weight is not budging. I am trying to keep going, though.
Janie-I'm sorry about your health issues. I hope you are doing okay. I also hope you are able to step it up and lose some of those pesky pounds. I know you can do it. Jen-the idea of getting professional help is so appealing but I am just too cheap to pay for it yet. Someday. I hope you are enjoying your gym and doing well. |
