Hi Kisha

Have you tried committing to writing down everything you eat? Just that simple action makes you more mindful of what you are putting in your mouth. If you bite it, write it.

Lucy, how do you feel about beans and lentils? Maybe getting an Indian cookbook? (you have to modify the recipes to make up for all that clarified butter, but the food tastes good).

Applebee's is my new best friend. they have a whole selection of yummy WW-friendly foods on the menu. MMMMM....

Spaypets,

My hubby joined WW and loved it. He shed the pounds and then put them back on when he slacked off. He is really good about writing everything down. I haven't tried that yet, but I will. It has been a little more difficult to figure out the points for certain things since I haven't been measuring either, so I guess that's something that I'm going to have to do. Also, in Indian dishes, what do you substitute for the butter and does it change the taste? I like that: "You bite it, you write it." Thanks.

Lucyjoy, you're right, the boys eat anything that isn't nailed down! The cake will be gone before I know it, probably tonight!

For me, I need to commit (and will begin) to work out at Curves at least 3 days per week, no matter what. Watch what I eat, commit to writing it down and counting up the points. I think I will also try to lift weights (I tried Body4Life 2 years ago) during my 2 hour break (rest time) and maybe add something more upbeat like TaeBo twice a week. OK, I accept the challenge and will write down my goals and get moving!!!! Thanks for the motivation everyone!

In WW week 1 booklet there are guidelines on how to estimate measuring using your hand, so if it's too big a pain to weigh and measure, that's a good guideline.

Also, WW sells great serving spoons that hold a cup or half a cup (assuming you don't let whatever you're serving mound over the top!).

Mostly in Indian dishes, you can just stir fry the stuff in butter flavored cooking spray (yeah, it's not as yummy but the seasoning is what makes Indian cooking so good). Weight Watchers cookbook Take Out Tonight has some really good Indian style dishes.

BTW, when we were in India picking up DD I LOST weight--came home at 107. I actually thought I looked too thin. I ate, but I kept getting full after a couple of bites--probably nerves combined with eating rich food. Everything was soooo good.

Vegetarian meals...

Spaypet's mention of lentils reminded me of my husband's favorite dish which comes from my Moosehead cookbook. If you are unfamiliar with Moosehead, it is a vegetarian restaurant somewhere in New England, I think. Anyway, they have several cookbooks -- they are not all Vegan recipes, although the book often mentions Vegan alternatives/substitutions.

There are lots of recipes in there involving lentils, and also sweet potatos seem to be a staple for many meals. My favorite from this book is "black bean and sweet potato burritos"... I know, it probably sounds gross, but it is YUMMY, and no cheese necessary!

Oops! That is the Moosewood Collective, not MooseHEAD!

Yesterday was my second weigh-in at weight watchers and I lost TWO pounds!! I am so happy because I splurged a few times through out the last week and still was able to stay on track. Today I got up bright and early to go work out at the club. I was reading a magazine while doing the stair machine. I thought I'd do it for 20 minutes. In the mag it read that Oprah does her cardio workouts for 45 minutes! I decided if Oprah could last for 45 minutes so can I. So...I did that stair machine for 45 minutes today! It was such a terrific feeling of accomplishment for me! That's the longest I've ever lasted! I am determined to keep up the 3x per week workout, too. In the past I've aimed for 5 times and with kids in the house that is NOT realisitc for me. I'm happy to be making healthy changes and REALLY need the support weight watchers gives me and you guys here. THanks for listening....(reading?)

Well for those of you that have or are doing the atkins, (which I don't think anyone is but me ) I am in Ketos (SP?).... After being on it for only 2 days I am burning fat... I got on the scales this morning, probably shouldn't, but couldn't resist and have lost 4 pounds. I know that it is just water weight, but for me to see anything leaving.. Well is a good encouragement for me....
So how is everyone else doing... Remember we must support each other here... That is what we are here for..
I think it is great all of the support that has turned out here... I am so proud of all of you... Ok I feel a group ((((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))) coming on
Oh and welcome to all of the newbies... Your going to love it here...
Well I am off to do my exercising, and then off to bed for me...

Gina

Okay, so no after-work snack yesterday!! I did have a cup of herbal tea.....

We had a high fat/calorie dinner though... homemade mac & cheese with ham and veggies. very Yummy though

I had a small serving of desert (caramel pudding). I think I need to ask Hilary to either go visit her folks for a couple of weeks or to just stop cooking such great food!!

Wow! I just checked out the website D. recommended fitday.com! What a great way to keep track of everything! You can also enter what you ate for the day and it tells you how your doing with your vitamin and mineral intake! After seeing this I am so happy I take a great supplement because the standard american diet (S.A.D.) isn't giving me enough nutrients. I have access to a tool that measure antioxidants in your skin too. If anyone wants information pm me. Have a great, healthy day! Kayla

Kmedsker and echaos!!!! YYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!! Keep up the good work!

All Boys, I tried Atkins but I couldn't last. By day 2, I was readyy to gnaw into my arm! As you can see, I have zero willpower when it comes to food, so that is going to change.

I did much, much better yesterday with eating and, for the most part, made better choices and I even went to Curves!!!!

Great job everyone!

Add to yesterday's menu a martini (hey, I had the points for it!).

Today's plan

Morning Star sausages
skim milk

left over chowder
toast w/ spray butter

Turkey sausage and peppers
Salad
Popcorn

(might run out for a salad at lunch if I'm especially hungry).

Andy, can I make a suggestion? Have a little protein in your breakfast--you'll be less likely to succumb to the brownie. Protein with a little fat is really good in sustaining people and evening out blood sugar (unless I've misunderstood and the stew was breakfast--yum).

I'm one of those carbo sensitive people--I am better off skipping breakfast entirely than having cold cereal and skim milk for bfast--I wind up hungrier than if I'd eaten nothing. Apparently eating even good carbs on an empty stomach raises my blood sugar high enough so it plummets after to lower than when I started.

However, eating oatmeal, because it's less processed does hold me longer (but an egg will hold me even longer).

Can I join your thread?

I just wanted to know if I could join y'all. I was diagnosed just about 2 weeks ago with diabeties and I have to lose weight, exercise and eat right as part of my treatment. I've always been overweight, but not seriously until about 10 years ago. I topped the scales at 430 pounds and am now at 307. I've been moderately dieting for 2 years to do that...now I guess I'm "seriously dieting"--or lifestyle altering.
Yesterday I had a banana and yogurt for breakfast. Tuna and cottage cheese for lunch. 6 lite triscuit crackers for a snack and a dinner of lemon shrimp on brown rice with a salad (blasamic vinegar dressing) . I usually only drink water and non sweetened tea, but I'm adopting diet lemonade as lemons are good for diabetics. I also read yesterday that they just did a medical study that has found a chemical in cherries is good for helping to assist insulin efficiency. So, I will begin stocking cherries as part of my snack items. I wasn't very happy to find out I have diabetes, but I'm trying to view this as an opportunity to get healthy for me and for my baby. She deserves a healthy mom and she deserves healthy eating habits. Lydia is a major motivation.
