This letter was written last week, so it is possible that something has changed since that time.
It would be great if the waiting time does become shorter for all of us anticipating!
Good Luck!

Now with the recent changes d/t the terrrorist attacks it will be interesting to see how adoptions are effected. Our dossier had been received in China October 29, 2001. Fingers crossed --it will not take 11 - 12 months, as we have been told by our adoption agency.

When I sent my dossier to China in June 2000, the wait for a referral was 7-8 months. My referral took 350 days - approximately 11.5 months. The wait has only been increasing since then. Sorry to put a damper on things! You can read about the new quota system at the following site:

http://catalog.com/fwcfc/quotas.htm

Hopefully the quota will speed up the wait but it will probably take months if not longer to get through the backlog of applications in China.

China--quota

I have been reading up on the changes China is making on the amount of children that will be allowed to be adopted. One of the changes effects single parents a great deal. As of 12/1/01, only a small percent of an agencies referals can be single parents. (what I am seeing is 5%) Also, the amount of adoptions each agency will be allowed is going to be based on an average of how many they have had in the last 3 years. So...if you are a single parent or putting in an application later in the year --I would make sure the agency has not filled their quota before you sign your contract.
