Does anyone know what the wait for a SN referal is?

It seems to vary by agency and what needs you are open to. Some agencies have children listed on their site and prospective parents can request to be matched with one of those children. Other agencies have waiting lists and it can take anywhere from a few months to a year or more to be matched.

If you are only open to a few minor needs, you can expect your wait to be longer than if you are open to more major needs, multiple needs, or an older child.

It depends on the agency. We were told that the wait for a infant (less than 12 months old) girl with a minor special needs like mild cleft lip and palate or a mild heart defect that doesn't need surgery might be about 1-2 years. For families open to toddler and children with moderate special needs the wait is less than 6 months.
For boys ages 4 and up with mild special needs and preschool-aged girls with moderate to severe special needs the time line ranges from almost immediately - 3 months.

Once again this is the agency we spoke with, the wait varies greatly from agency to agency

It took us about 9 months to get our dossier together (New USCIS laws slowed us down)-you could probably do it in a much shorter time. We were logged into China Dec. 3, 08-we recieved our referral of our son (he is 3 yrs old) on January 27th. Our agency (and some do) required us to have all our paperwork submitted before getting a referral. If you are open to a boy your wait will be much shorter as ours was. Our sons need is considered moderate although we think of it is as more minor than some of the minor needs...that is us though.
We began our paperchase in March of 08 and travel in 2 weeks! About a year and a half total.

We sent in our pre-approval paperwork for a little boy last Thursday and got the "call" the following Tuesday! We sent our LOI on Wed. He is GORGEOUS!
