We stayed at the Poly Plaza. It was pretty nice. Maybe like 3 stars out of 5.

I would give it more of a 2.5 out of 5. We also stayed at the Poly Plaza for 2 nights per our agency. A nice central location down the block from a small quickie mart, restaurants, and stores. The breakfast buffet was good. However, some in our group ate the salad and became sick for the next few days (including on Gotcha/Meetcha). So avoid any raw veggies. However, the beds were small and very hard. In addition it was very muggy and warm in the rooms (we had to open the windows to get some cooler air) this past May. My sinuses which are usually very fluid, completely dried out and they still havent recovered 2 months later (bring saline solution to re-hydrate). You will probably only be there 2-3 days so for that its an OK stay. You will be jet lagged, tried from touring, amazed at all the wonderful surroundings and people and anticipating being so close to your meeting your child for the first time, it will all go quickly and be a blur. Oh and you might get lucky and see some new families at the hotel as we were told the Poly Plaza is the White Swan for adoptions from Spain. So that was neat to see (again anticipation and nerves of what will happen to you soon).

We aren't much help I'm afraid.
We stayed at the Poly Plaza in October, but we really weren't there long enough to have an opinion. We arrived in Beijing at 9:30 p.m. on a Friday, spent Saturday touring and were at the airport early Sunday morning to head to our province. What time we spent in the hotel we were asleep. Kevin

Yeah, of all the hotels we stayed at in China, the Poly Plaza was my least favorite. But it was clean enough, which is my biggest "standard" by which I rate them ![]()

We stayed at the Novotel Peace in Beijing. It was pretty nice. The beds were still pretty hard and I had a hard time with the internet service - it kept going in and out. But the breakfast buffet was quite nice.

We're leaving next Friday so I can't tell you about how nice our hotel in Beijing is. We are staying at the Wangfujing Grand. I believe that is where everyone from our agency goes. It looks good on the website.

We stayed there in May '07 and I loved our room. I thought the room size was big, didn't mind two twins (too tired to want to sleep with my husband) and loved the hard beds.
I didn't have any issues at all with it. In fact, I thought it was better than the White Swan. It was definately better than the place we stayed in Nanchang as far as size and cleanliness goes. The tea room that is by the lobby is very cool, you have to go there and have some tea. If you are adventurous and have some free time, walk to the government store by the silk markets. Silk markets were just knock off clothes with EXTREMELY aggressive sellers, but the government store was nice and I picked up some tea there. Oh, yeah, you aren't supposed to eat anything that isn't cooked or has been peeled. No salad or apples (unless you peel them), but bananas are okay. Good luck and Congrats!

We stayed there also and were very pleased. Great location for early morning and evening walks. I still have very vivid, nice memories. I would think that you will enjoy it as well. Safe travels.

We stayed at the Hua Du Hotel. It was nice, but like another hotel mentioned, the beds were hard, and the internet service wasn't great. Also, there seemed to be more of a language barrier there than at our hotels in Nanchang and Guangzhou. They did have a decent breakfast buffet.
Oops...just realized you had already made a decision. Missed that post when I read the thread. |
