Over-reaction to checking hair
My little guy has a little pimple on the back of his head in his hairline. I felt it when washing his hair. When I bent him over to investigate, it set off a 20 minute crying fit with him nearly hyperventilating.
He was crying, I was crying. I didn't know what to do. Finally, I asked him if it reminded him of being in China and checked and he sobbed "yes." I don't know what he remembers but it was so sad. Since then, we've been playing at checking each other's hair (he checks Mama and Baba and we check him) in an effort to make it not so scary. Has anyone experienced similar overreactions to checking hair? |

Ricky gets upset with clippers. In the SWI they shaved his head so he was bald. He gets very upset. He is okay with scissors.
Maybe they had a lice breakout and they had to pick through the kids hair. Not fun at all.

Oh No!
Sorry to hear about your experiences. I hope everything is alright with the little guy!
Good Idea with the "game" theory! I'm sure it isn't that scary anymore.

Karen, I haven't experienced that with our daughter, specifically to hair. But when we brought Cady home, and took her to the doctor, she was TERRIFIED of anyone in the doctor's office wearing a white coat. The phlebotomist was so nice, and yet, our daughter had to be held down by both myself and DH, and she still wriggled out of our arms....and that was before she tried to draw blood.
Fortunately, her doctor is a very young woman, and doesn't wear a white coat. You have the right idea of checking each other's head. That gives him the power. Recently, Cady went in to the doctor for her her Kindergarten shots (can you believe it??), and she has a doctors' kit that she took in to the doctors office, and gave the doctor a shot first. She was a trooper, and accepted all four shots without crying. It's so hard not knowing what they went thru before they came home. But with love and patience and time, for the most part, they get over it, whatever it was.

With Lydia it was bells. The phone especially sent her into hysterics. She would cling to me in desperation. I ultimately ended up turning off the phone ringer...but anything that rang really upset her.
