Question Question on new requirements and surgeries

We started to adopt from China in 2006 and were ready to have our dossier translated when we switched to Guatemala in May 2006. I know new regulations have come along since then and had a question about one of them.

I read on one website under health requirements that you could not have had any major surgery in the last 10 years. DH (36) has a rare arthritic condition mainly affecting his hips and had both hips replaced about 3-4 years apart during the last 10 years. With the replacements he is perfectly okay except for stiffness now and then that all arthirits sufferers have. It was also not a problem for our well-respected, China-only agency in 2006. Would this be a problem now?

I would talk with an agency about it. All of the changes took place in May, 2007. And they were major changes having to do with respect to health of the PAPs.
If you had been DTC before May 2007, you would still be qualified under the older rules, even for those of us still waiting.
Hope it all works out for you.

I think a lot has to do with whether the surgery is considered major or minor by China. I wouldn't think that a successful joint replacement would be an issue. But checking with an agency that is up on how China has responded to so many applications would tell you for sure.

Good luck to you!
