I'm so excited - yesterday I found a 100-dollar gift card to Target that we had forgotten to use last year (it was given to us at a shower and then we left for China right afterwards, so we were a little crazed at the time - haha).

Anyways, here's what we ended up with after shopping for Charlotte yesterday...she is only 2, so we aren't really sure what she wants - but I think she will like this stuff!

We ended up getting her a Cabbage Patch 25th anniversary doll. I never had one as I was too old for them by then.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...VL._AA400_.jpg

The one we got has black hair and purple eyes.

We also got her this 4-in-1 play yard for her dolls:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...aL._AA400_.jpg

And a toy microphone for a buck - it has an echo when you sing into it.

I also ordered her "Big Bird in China" DVD on Amazon along with one of my old favorite books - The Monster at the End of this Book. We used to have Big Bird in China, but then I lost the DVD - so I wanted to replace it.

Oh - and we went to an adoption benefit yesterday afternoon for our friends Dawn and Lee who are adopting from both China AND Haiti, and Adam bid 20 bucks at the silent auction and won:

http://www.usgoose.com/Pictures/April2008/100_4467.jpg

http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/...go-fishing.jpg

We may save a few things for next year, too (maybe one or two games since they would be over her head now).

We also have a few other books and DVDs for her. And of course a Christmas ornament - as we have gotten a Christmas ornamanet for her every year since 2005 - since we were waiting for her.

The only thing I really want for myself is a few small stocking gifts and DH and I are hoping to get a Playstation 3 as a big mutual gift to each other, but we will have to see how much money we have once Christmas gets here before we decide on that for sure.

What do you want for Christmas?

We got our gift a month ago, and he is all we dreamed of.

What are the kids getting for Christmas?
This is Jake's first Christmas home, and I really want to do it right. Trouble is I procrastinate, so I hope I get everything going this year. He loves lights, so we cannot wait to get the tree up.
Gift wise I wanted to get him an inch worm (only because I saw one in Wal-Mart and got nostalgic.) Now, Wal-Mart doesn't have it anymore. Who buys an inch worm?

What do they REALLY want?
I think he would love an aquarium. The kid is crazy about fish, but Momma is not crazy about cleaning for them, and I'm not sure where I would put it where Jake would stay out of it. I'm thinking about it, though.

If you're waiting-Do you have a traditional way of celebrating your waiting child into each Christmas that passes?
Always before it has been saying we can't wait until our child is with us. Time to start a new tradition this year.

What do you want for Christmas?

I'm really not sure, which means I don't know what to tell my mother or my husband, both of whom keep asking.

What are the kids getting for Christmas?

Older dd (3 by Christmas) is getting a Ling doll, a toy violin, and probably a toy guitar. Not sure about anything else. Probably a toy box to share with her sister. She is also getting a tricycle for her birthday, which is also in december.

Younger dd (17 months at Christmas) is a little tougher because she can't tell us what she likes yet. She does seem to be into cars or anything that rolls, so she'll probably get some toy cars and some kind of a doll. Not sure about anything else yet.

Can you tell we haven't done much shopping yet?

What do they REALLY want?

The oldest has asked for the "bicycle," a violin, and a guitar, so hopefully, she'll be happy.

What do you want for Christmas? 10 million dollars

What are the kids getting for Christmas? Easy bake oven, Barbies, a dress up trunk with cool costumes we got on sale after Halloween.

What do they REALLY want? All she ever asks for is Gummi bears. My kid is easy.

Hey for those of you who are are celebrating first Christmases with your children CONGRATULATIONS!
Be aware though some kids are quite overwhelmed by Christmas their first year. We had a lot of frustration and crying during our year one Christmas. It was just too much for our girl who'd only been with us for a couple of months. I'm wishing all of you the best and our first Christmas as a family will always be special to me, because it was the first...but just know all kids react differently and some won't deal with all the attention and frivolity as well as others.

Yes, good advice!

Charlotte did pretty well last Christmasafter only being home for two months and then having so many people around at the holidays, but it helps that she had met my brother and his two girls in Hong Kong at the end of our adoption trip (and then they all came for Christmas), so they were familiar to her. She is very much a go-with-the-flow kind of kid, and has been ever since we met her (at 13 months old). We are lucky that way!

What do you want for Christmas? my favorite bath products, a cozy robe and a new pair of earrings

What are the kids getting for Christmas? dd is into the American girl doll this year. Santa's bringing the doll and we'll get some accessories at Target. Since ds is an infant, he's both easy and hard to shop for.

What do they REALLY want? dd--American girl doll with curly hair. ds--to eat everything off the floor he can.

What do you want for Christmas?
I've wanted a sapphire ring for a long time, but it will have to wait again. Other than that, I love getting cute and cheezy mugs or other things that I can look at throughout the year and say, "Oh I remember getting that...." I still have some really inexpensive dollar-store type of porceline figurines that I keep in my kitchen from my son, more than 20 years ago.

What are the kids getting for Christmas?
My 25 yr old son already got a new bed from SleepTrain that he really needed, but it was expensive, and we got it for him in July, so I told him it was his big December birthday/Christmas present. He was fine with it...it's a NICE bed. 4yr old DD will get a ballerina wind-up jewelry box that I found on the internet. I remember having one just like it...brings back memories. And the other biggy for her is going to be a Wow Wee Alive Lion Cub. She is so infatuated with those.

What do they REALLY want? Other than a Wow Wee Cub...She really wants a huge pink kids car but we have no room for it in the garage, and they're super expensive.

If you're waiting-Do you have a traditional way of celebrating your waiting child into each Christmas that passes?
This is a question that I recently asked myself, so I posed it here to see what responses come up, for ideas. I think we're going to start getting one Christmas present and an ornament that represents our thoughts about her til she comes home.

DD wants "Fancy Ancy", the doll from the "Fancy Nancy" series but really I think she'd be just as happy with a box full of tupperware and spoons! She has so many toys but she'd rather play in the tupperware drawer making dinner. I sure hope that lasts!

As for me, I'm so happy with my DD and DH that I have all I want!

P.S. - I agree with Lissa and Tracy7. Our first big holiday (although it wasn't Christmas) was a little too much for her. She didn't cry or anything like that but she was extremely clingy for the next few days. I don't think she understood why all the people were there.

What do you want for Christmas?
I'm getting my Christmas and birthday presents early this year. We're taking an overnight trip in early December to see my favorite band in another city and hiring a nanny to stay over with Xander at home so my husband and I can have a night alone together.

What are the kids getting for Christmas?
Xander loves playing "tea party" and likes anything food-related, so we're getting him this great wooden play kitchen, plus a new set of dishes, pots & pans and some fake food. Plus a few smaller gifts like Color Wonder sets and some toy cars, which he loves.

What do they REALLY want?
I have no idea. We can't seem to explain Christmas in a way that he understands, so we're just getting him what we know he'll like and hoping that by next year he'll understand Christmas a bit better.

What do you want for Christmas? I do want a pannini maker, but more than that I want the referral of our son to come!

What are the kids getting for Christmas? Jordan is getting a DS and a couple games, Jay the fisher price Bat Cave and a couple leapster games.

What do they REALLY want?
Jordan wanted the DS AND a new American Girl Doll, but Santa's pockets are not that deep this year. (He is saving for a trip to China!) and Jay wanted a Wii, but since you can't find one anywhere he said he also wanted the Bat Cave. They will be happy.

If you're waiting-Do you have a traditional way of celebrating your waiting child into each Christmas that passes? If we are blessed enough to have our referral by Christmas I would like to get an orniment with his picture in it.

What do you want for Christmas?
Some good warm socks, new tea kettle, clothes appropriate for teaching at preschool

What are the kids getting for Christmas?
Elmo, CandyLand, matchbox cars, probably too much stuff from the grandparents, aunts and uncles.

What do they REALLY want?
He says he wants a BIG TRUCK.

He really doesn't understand Christmas at this point. HBe is excited because Lao Lao and Lao Ye (grandparents) will be coming to visit at Christmas. That's all he knows at this point. He is hearing about Santa and presents, so that will be an evolving thing this year.

Anyone ever go thru the mail order catalogues as a child and circle everything you wanted? (Sears, Penney's.....) I never really thought I would get it, but it was fun imagining, and I'm sure my mom spent hours with peace in the house as I diligently circled my lists. Big items and BIG ticket items...the bigger the better. We had a LOT of circled pages of catalogues sitting around the house months later that I would still go thru.
Cady thought that was fun to do this year too. Ahhh the wisdom of dear ole mom. I did inherit some of it, anyway.
