Longer wait than anticipated

My wife and I recently finished our home study and have all our paperwork in. We were just told that there will probably be another 6 month wait for our I-800A application to go to the National Benifits Center. Then our paperwork will be sent to be approved by the USCIS which is back logged. Ater this the dossier will be going to China for the insanely long wait

it's very discouraging.

That sounds like an insanely long time to wait for your 797C. When we were paperchasing it took just about 30 days from when we were fingerprinted to having our approval in hand. That, however, was back in the beginning of 06. I'm sure things have changed since then. We do, however, know about the insanely long wait once DTC. We are just about at 30 months and fully expecting another 15 at least!

I am so sorry about how long your paperchase itself is taking you - let alone how long the wait for China will be. I feel like we just made it in under the wire (and we waited 21.5 months from LID to referral, which now seems so short compared to what other are waiting or will wait- but at the time - it was insanely long). I feel for those of you who are still waiting. It's the hardest thing I have ever been through. Of course it was so worth every second of that long wait, but I could not be convinced of that until we had Charlotte in our arms.

I just really don't understand how so many people (US & China) can drag their feet like this
If I didn't already have a little Chinese daughter bonded into my mind I'd be tempted to look at another country, but I really have bonded with the mental image of a little Chinese daughter and I just know that's where I'm being led to.

i wish I had started this process earlier and thus had a shorter wait, but then I wouldn't be getting the same daughter. In fact, at first I was completely against adoption. I didn't even want to talk about it with my wife. But one day at our church the pastor was giving a cermon about how God had adopted us all as his children and It really spoke to me. and I knew that it was what I was supposed to do. it's funny how things happen. Hopefully the process speeds up with the Olympics being over and the orphanage donation being increased. As it stands It's probably going to take another 4 to 6 years the way things are going.

John - very cool how at first you were resitant but now you are so looking forward to it all! I just wish it would speed up for so many of you!!

And you are right - you will get the child who was meant for you. I know now how true that is.

We were trying so hard to be DTC by my DH's 30th birthday, which was 10/5/05 - and to get a LID soon after that. Well, a number of thing slowed us down - most notably our I-171H - and we were not DTC until 11/11/05, and our LID was 11/22/05. And because of being logged in a month later than planned, we waited in line for 5 more months to get our referral - and we would not want it to be any different. Charlotte was meant for us, and us for her.

I know that eventually it will feel as though the wait was good because it brought us a specific child. Now, however, it just sucks and at times feels as though it will never happen. I, too, struggle with the things that held up our paperwork and caused us to be DTC later. Our social worker took over 5 weeks to get our homestudy finished. We started the whole process in 9/05. We easily could have been a LID of 3/06 or earlier. I guess it will all make sense in the end!!

It will, but it's hard to be convinced of that now. I understand.

I always find it amazing now a days, when I see referrals of babies that are 7-8 months old, and wonder how much dispair the parents were feeling 8-9 months earlier, waiting for the wait till their referral came...but now knowing that their child was not even born at that time.

Yes, it is really interesting when you look at it that way. I remember in Summer 2006 I was REALLY DOWN about our wait - it had been about 9 months - but we knew we were looking at another year at least (and after thinking it would be 8 months, that was tough). I had just had two surgeries for my endometriosis after going through severe pain, and my DH has lost his job (and had recently just found work again). Then my brother invited me to Hong Kong to visit him and his wife and my 2-year-old niece for a week. He paid for the whole thing, so only I was able to go and not my husband (but he also didn't have any paid time off from his new job, either). So off to Hong Kong I went, which REALLY lifted my spirits - especially spending time with my adorable niece.

Little did I know, that just two provinces above Hong Kong - in the Hunan Province - that our sweet Charlotte was barely 3 weeks old. So while I was in Hong Kong., she was already born and just a tiny baby then, and I was so close to her - yet so far! It gives me chills still when I think about it.

Yes, back logged it is. The NBC is trying to get new I800a cases through in 90 days, but our (a couple of glitches along the way) took 127 days before we got our 797c! The biggest issue for us - beside the back log, was that our HS had to be revised 2x for revisions. It is very very frustrating. Now we have to get a re-issue of our marriage cert and police clearances because they were dated/certified over 6 months ago. No one knew when we started that it would take 100+ days to get our 797. Prayers for a quick 797 turnaround for you!

There really is a plan. Just more than 6 months ago my husband and I were in the same boat. Then we received a referral for an 18-month-old with a cleft lip and unrepaired cleft palate, and our world turned upside-down, literally, as we recently returned from China with our son, who was born on 10-26-06, the day our application was approved by our agency.
He is perfect, and so is our family.
God is working. Never lose that faith.

We too are waiting for our 797C. We have been logged in since 6/25. We got a call this past Friday that our case was under review and then I got an email with 2 revisions needed (just wording). I am expecting us to be approved by Wednesday. I am anxious to get in the ever growing line. At least I am on my way to getting a LID so I can keep track of how long it will actually take. Yeah!

Hi I have a friend that applied to Adopt from China back in 2006.. Now near the end of 2008 still waiting to Adopt.
Most Chinese Adoptions she said now can take 2-5 years from Start to finish.

We were going to Adopt form Russia we were accepted on paper to be able to adopt( just not a child chosen then), then plans change out of our control.

We have been accepted and are going to Adopt from another country now.

We have also waited since 2006. China sounds very hard very long to wait.

In saying this their just seems not enough man and woman power on the ground level to sort out everyone's paper work in any International Adoptions.

Minid you Indai is haivng a huge crises and the Govermetn is trying to sepeed alot of ADoptions up, thiere due to the fact there are overcome with alot of peopel dumpoing thier baby girls, due to the very expensive dowry system, girls are seen as a burden in India.
The government In India is quite embarrassed, so has been setting up alot of new Orphanage in India, and now thier has been urgent a law change to processing paper work in just 45 days! which took 12 mths or so in the past.

Millions of girl babies are Aborted in India in the past decades there has been a overwhelming news about this just recently. Very sad.

So anyway... If you count the time we tried to have our own bio child, and cannot, we have waited all in all 6 yrs! ( we started the Adoption processes 2006)
Yes it is very hard journey, not for the faint hearted.

MY DH and I started the paperwork and at that time the wait was less then a year. By the time the paperwork was sent to China the wait got up to 15-18 months. We are no spring chickens and became really nervous when rumours started flowing about the wait increasing even more. We already had two teenagers and couldn't imagine raising a third when the other two are in college. Putting all that aside, we went to China 23 months after we started our process. Yes it seemed like an eternity, I was on this website daily. But in two weeks we will be celebrating our first Gotcha Day Anniversay. I still can't believe that it has been a year, it seems like yesterday we were in China. Be patient, i know that is so hard to here. Good luck

Smile RE: Your China adoption

Like to add it is not China we are going to, this is our friend. We personally are going to another Country though. Yhe wait is very frustrating indeed...

However in saying this,, 10 mths have past since we were told we have been fully accepted to Adopt, Whew! so dont fingers crossed and all that... 14-16 mths to go/ As told 24-30 mths wait.
But maybe 15 mths, whi knows as really these Adoptions have their own ways.

Yes we are not Spring chickens either so though we have top health etc, time is still everything for a child and us to find us,( we are not adopting a baby and happy with that as older children need home s as much) soooo much hoping we here something at least just after Xmas, anything, just like to hear something...

Some one please pray for us-

So have you got your child/ Baby in the end from China? as sounded like it. Boy or girl?
