We adopted Marlee from China a month ago!

We have been back home for about a month now and although we are still tired from the major changes in our lives we couldn't be happier. Marlee is 20 months old and just a wonderful baby. We went to Guangzhou, China for 2 weeks as our baby was in the Guangdong province. This has been one of the best experiences of our lives and we want to encourage people to adopt these beautiful kids if you are in a position to do so. Not only do you become a pretty interesting family/story to tell, but you meet some other amazing people that become your dear friends very quickly.

We have taken the time to capture our experience through, pictures and movies. I tried to make the movies entertaining and give people an inside look at what its like at our blog at Sgroiland

An continues to be an interesting and educational process for us. If you have any questions you want to ask us having freshly returned from China please feel free to respond to this thread.
Adopting a baby can be so wonderful.

Thanks for sharing your Gotcha videos. My eyes always well up and my throat gets a lump in it every time I see the magic of Gotcha Day.
It's so wonderful to catch the beginnings on film. We've watched our Gotcha videos time and time again, and it always brings back the same feelings of love.

Congratulations and welcome home! Our DD is from Guangdong also. We loved Guangzhou and hope to return when DD is older. We were there at the end of March and the weather was rainy but still beautiful.

Just out of curiousity, did you get to visit the orphanage? We had the opportunity but didn't. She's from Maoming City and it was quite a bus ride so no one wanted to go. I really regret that now.

Melissa, I agree. If someone has an opportunity to visit the orphanage, they should. It's so important, I think, for closure. Being able to see the person that took care of my daughter, and to thank her personally was a huge healing process for me (with losing her first 17 months of her life). It was also (Im sure) extremely important to her nanny to be able to say goodbye. And although my daughter was too young to realize it then, it will be invaluable for her future. We videotaped our meeting with her nanny, and I'm sure it will help our daughter when she is trying to piece together her past.
We really felt we owed it to our daughter, and to the person that had taken care of her for so long.
We hope to go back to the same SWI to greet them, when we go back to China for our second daughter.
