What a beautiful story. Two things really got to me; the girl being interviewed said, "A lot of it comes from what you see your parents loving," Cook said. "My parents really love China."
I have always believed that to be true.
Also, the girls were able to see their files, and the third girl found a note, asking for someone to care for her. My first thought was if our daughter might have had a note. I've always taken it for face value that she was not left with a note, simply because we were given many things....We were given an in depth journal from her Nanny, her finding ad, and some good-luck items made by some local elderly residents. It seemed the director wanted our daughter to have these things, as she knew the importance it would take on as she got older. But no note. Maybe she was not left with one, but it's very interesting that two out of three of these girls had notes, but the parents were not given the notes when they were adopted, and even more interesting was that the orphanage kept those notes all these years in the girls files. Was it because they knew the importance of the notes but thought perhaps the adoptive parents would not feel the same, or was it because they simply filed the notes as one more piece of paper?

I really like the articule. It really gave a nice prespective from the adoptees point of view it also noted how of course they would want to know thier roots and it was accepted. That these girls were respected for who they are as opposed to who they belonged to.

It must be very validating for these young girls.

Great article! Thank you for sharing! I would be so proud if Charlotte wanted to do this someday, and my hope is that we raise her with this kind of love for her birth culture.

What a great article! I started reading it during my planning period at school and was sitting in my class crying when the bell for the next class period began. I pray to God that my DD gets a chance to be involved in something as rewarding. What a wonderful opportunity!
