Adoptive Parents Age Range
HI!
Someone asked me yesterday if my husband & I are the oldest ones adopting from China. (I just turned 39) I said you have to be at least 30, and not over 50- so I am guessing that most people are in the middle range. I think that money stops alot of people right after turning 30- seems like that is a block for some people. Just curious if I am "old" or "young" in the adoption world....

I'd say you're in the middle of the range!
You're younger than me, anyways! ![]() |

Hi Happy2Bhere,
You are definitely one of the young ones in my book! Oh how I wish I was 10 years younger, but really, if I was, I probably wouldn't be where I am today. Waiting for my first and only child in China. I am 52 and DH just turned 50! I'm thinking most couples waiting tend to be in their middle 30's to late 40's. And then there is a few of us really "crazy" couples who are older. We are just thankful we got in before the new guidelines changed. Thanks for starting this thread. It should be interesting to see where we all are with regards to age. |

We were 42 for our first and 51 for our second. My wife and I both had older parents (fathers were 53 when they had us), so we do not feel old at all. I think patience comes with age so the older the better!

Age
HI!
Thanks for replying. My husband is 53, will be 54 Tuesday. We got in before the changes, but he was already at the top of the age range. I know that most couples can't afford the huge amount right when they turn 30- so I was guessing that most couples are 40ish. I think being older really is a blessing. I always thought I'd be 18, get married, have 3 kids, and that was life. Life took me in a different direction, and I am glad I am older. Being 39 and dealing with a 4 year old is much easier than being a kid myself, raising a kid. I think everyones log in name should have their age by it- lol. Thanks! Melissa

You probably are about in the middle of the range. I was almost 34 and dh was 36 on our daughter's gotcha day. Most of the couples in our travel group were in their mid 30's, but overall we were considered a "young" group.

We were 36 (me) and 32 (DH - and yes, we had to wait for him to turn 30 before we started our paperchase for China) when we adopted Charlotte, and we were "of the younger ones" in our travel group. So I would say you are mid-range or even slightly younger than average maybe.

I think 39 is mid-range. My wife and I are both 45 and are adopting our first (and only?).

I am 30 and my husband is 33. We had to wait until my 30th birthday to submit our dossier last October.

We were 33 and 39 when we sent in our paperwork. We are now 34 and 41 and have about 2 more years to go
Hubby just had a b-day but I get to wait a few more months until the big 3-5

I was 26 and DH was 30 when we 1st adopted. I was 29 for #2 and 31 for #3. We knew that we would be adopting all along so when we were ready to start our family we headed straight for the agencies. I have friends in their 30's and friends in their 50's who are all in the adoption process. It has been wonderful to meet so many people in different stages of our lives and find friendship through adoption.

I guess I should add that our adoptions were Vietnam and domestic so there were different rules about age than in China.
