OT and kinda silly - hair question!

Hi all! I am posting here as my daughter is from Central Asia and so shares some physical characteristics with your kids. This is silly but it is driving me crazy!

I am desperately trying to grow her hair out ( I want no bangs). It is dark brown with red highlights, and very silky and fine, stick straight ( see pic) the problem is, her bangs are now down to her nose and if there is no barrette, they are of course in her eyes, making her look like the Shaggy Dog (besides the obvious problem, she casn't see!). I had hoped that the bangs would naturally train over to the side, since I keep barrtettes in at all times except bedtime!

So, any suggestions? Once the hair is all one length will it stay over to the side? Or should I just give up and cut the bangs?

Thanks for advice!

No suggestions here but we have the same problem, Castle is 1/2 Filipino and has never had bangs but to see her hair you would not believe me! She had a very high forehead as an infant but the hair has filled in now and the front is shorter than the back. We too keep a bow in at all times and also have to braid her hair in two braids at night before bed because it is so fine it mats to the back of her head if we don't. The lady who cuts our hair said the hair will catch up by the time she is 6 or 7!!! I just want long, same length, silky striaght hair!!!!!

I'm dealing with the same issue now. I don't want to cut her hair because when her hair was really short everyone kept calling her a boy, even when she wore pink. We did have "semi" bangs (not complete bangs)for a while but at this point we need to decide what to do. Her hair is growing out longer but it doesn't "weigh" much because it is fine so it doesn't stay out of her eyes. I'd like to hear suggestions, too!

Same story here. Ella is 3 and has been home for a year. Her head was evidently buzzed a little while before we got her and her hair has grown back quickly over the last year. I'm forever going back and forth on the bangs thing. I really don't want to have bangs cut for her, but I REALLY don't like her face being completely covered when she takes her hair band out. BTW, mcanvasback, you have a beautiful little sweetie!

I'm trying to grow Olivia's hair out too. I don't want her to have bangs either. Its always in her eyes, so I have to put something in her hair each day to keep it out of her eyes.

Not sure what the answer is...

We are in the same situation! I've cut her hair to try and get it all the same length and it sort of is so it is long in the front now. She doesn't seem to mind barettes or ponytails so we do one of them everyday. I think she's the cutest with one big ponytail on top. Though the day she asked for four, two in front and two in back was pretty cute too.

My question is, if you do bangs how much of the hair do you cut? I mind some of her hair comes all the way from the back so wouldn't it still all come forward if you only cut some of it in the front? Or is this the million dollar question?

My daughter is from Kaz and we have the same problem. She's 3.5 now and the only solution I've found is ponytails and barrettes together

I actually have the same problem with my own hair. Stick strait and fine. Once I grew my bangs long enough to tuck behind my ears that's where they went. That's where they are now or they'd be straight down over my face.

OK, so the drift I'm getting is - there is no solution - especially if specialk still has the problem and she is a grownup!!

Well, thanks guys - at least I know I'm not alone.
I guess I will have to make the big decision - to cut or not to cut.

We keep my sister in bangs because she hates barrettes, and when her hair is in her eyes, it irritates her eye that has the glaucoma. More often than not though, her hair automatically flicks over to the right. It's sort of got a natural part there. I have thick hair (am CC), and I remember growing my bangs out as an absolute pain. Barrettes or ponytails until it got long enough to tuck behind my ears. Now my "bangs" go down past my breasts (my hair at full length is waist-length or longer), and I never have trouble with them falling in my face because of the length. I have a friend whose daughter is from Hunan and has long hair and it just falls to the sides with the rest of it the way my hair does. So does my other friend's daughter from Guangdong's hair. So I don't know. Suffer through it getting longer and maybe it will just flop into the rest of it once it gets there (chin-length or longer).

Is the goal to have her hair all one length hoping that it will just train enough to stay off her face without using anything? Even if you grow her hair out all to one length, if you keep a side part, her hair will still be getting in her eyes without something to hold it in place. That's just what hair kind of does . You would still have to use something to hold it back like a barrette or when long enough keeping it tucked behind her ear. I had the same hair and the only way that I was able to have it all one length and long but still out of my eyes as a kid was to either have clips in my hair or have a middle part. Even THEN I had to tuck it behind my ears to really have it out of my face.

Yep...it's pretty much going to be whether you like bangs on her or not. Either way, it's still going to get in her eyes without something to hold it back

I also have the same issue. Margaux hair falls forward all the way from the back of her head. I don't want any bangs on her because her face is so round. I'm going through a lot of barrettes and pig tails. I hope once it gets long enough she can just keep it tucked behind her ears or will keep the barrettes in.

At first, our daughter's bangs basically came from all the way from the back of her head. When we decided to grow them out, we started training her hair to actually part down the middle. It took us several months, but her hair now naturally parts in the middle. We ended up cutting her bangs because they were always in her face (and she wouldn't keep headbands or barrettes in) and just cut very thin bangs. Now that she is almost 5, she wants to grow her bangs out again so we are trying it again.

My bangs are also the same length as the rest of my hair (fine, straight hair). I either have to pull them back with a barrette or push them behind my ears or else they are always in my face.

Wow! I read my original post three times before I realized what I was trying to say. I must've been tired that night.

Dd is good about keeping barrettes and ponytails in so I think we'll stick to letting it grow out for now. Later if she wants we can cut bangs.

Thanks for the information!

We solved this issue after alot of headache. I too was frustrated with trying to get my daughter's hair out of her face, and I had alot of great suggestions from my DTC group. My favorite had to be the bow training. Anyway, it didn't work! But after just about giving up, I decided to try the little black rubber bands from Walmart. These are primarily used for little black girls. I taught in an all black school, and I remember seeing alot of these. Anyway, I pulled her hair over to the side and put these in. They do not slip in her fine hair, so it actually stays put. I kept them in day and night for 3 months, and now her hair stays over to the side on it's own! I highly recommend them! They come in a pack of about 300. After bath, I put them in right away when her hair was still wet. I'm sure that on my blog you will see lots of pictures with Eleenah's hair in the ponytail on the side.
