Happy Chinese New Year!

Kung Hei Fat Choi! Happy Chinese New Year 2008! The Year of the Rat!

2008 The Year of the Rat

The Year Of The Rat

1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2030

People born in the Year of the Rat are noted for their charm and attraction for the opposite sex. They work hard to achieve their goals, acquire possessions, and are likely to be perfectionists. They are basically thrifty with money. Rat people are easily angered and love to gossip. Their ambitions are big, and they are usually very successful. They are most compatible with people born in the years of the Dragon, Monkey, and Ox.

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. The Chinese year 4705 begins on Feb. 18, 2007.

2008 Chinese date new year :2008 Feb. 7

Chinese months are reckoned by the lunar calendar, with each month beginning on the darkest day. New Year festivities traditionally start on the first day of the month and continue until the fifteenth, when the moon is brightest. In China, people may take weeks of holiday from work to prepare for and celebrate the New Year.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Our agency has a representative who lives in our city. Every year, she puts on a Chinese New Year celebration. This year she had it last Sunday (Feb. 3). She obviously is not a football fan, since she scheduled it at the same time as the Super Bowl. LOL

It was a great time. We gathered at a Chinese restaurant. There are 17 families in our area who have adopted from China (actually 16; they invite the one family in the area who adopted from Korea to the celebration) as well as a few of us who are in the process, and many of the families attended. There were more than a dozen kids from China in attendance (all girls but one boy), including the first girl from China to come to the area (she was united with her family in 1997).

Next year, there will be at least 3 more kids. One woman received her referral Feb. 4; another family there has a 12-28-05 LID, so they are next; and one couple will be traveling soon to get their son (they already have 2 girls from China).

I will admit it was kind of hard to sit there and watch all those beautiful children interact with each other and their families since we have so long to go, but it also gives those of us in line hope that eventually this long journey will end.

Once again, Happy Chinese New Year to all!

Kevin
