Updated Homestudy Questions...

A few more questions - hoping someone can assist...

Things are expiring for us - I am wondering how much (approx) some paid for their homestudy to be updated?

Also, what do we all have to re-do for that?(references, police checks, physicals, etc)? Is this like doing your entire dossier again?

Thanks for the info!

This is all dependent on your agency so don't take this as gospel. I've heard everything from paying nothing to more than $1000.

Our agency charged $250 and all we had to do was tell them that nothing had changed and fill out a child abuse clearance form. I've heard other people that had to do redo huge parts of their honestudy paperwork.

Best thing to do is just call your agency and ask.

Our HS update was free. We just had to pay for an updated police clearance (10 dollars) and then we both had updated doctor's appts (just paid co-pay).

My agency called to inform me the price is normally $1,700 and that because she was doing multiple updates in my group she was charging $1,000.

I have heard others just paid for a few minor updates - not that much...

Ours is sending a checklist of things needed to be done - mentioning references, police clearance, physicals...

That is why I am asking - funny how eveyone's agency is different - nothing is across the line...

Thanks for the info...

There was no charge for our homestudy update and it basically consisted of a another quick home visit, since we had moved across town.
Of course we had to pay for re-fingerprinting & CIS application II.

Our agency doesn't charge you again for updating your homestudy. I've heard that some agencies do charge you tho.

We had to get updated dr & police reports.

Our agency charged us $500 to update our HS. We had to redo the police report, CPS clearances, and medical form. Our SW also came out to our house for another home visit. In VA, the HS is only valid for a year, so we had to redo everything last fall. Now that we have to update our finger prints and I171H form, I was told we have to have yet another update for that! Not sure why we can't just use the one we had done 3 months ago, but apparently not! So, another doctors visit, another criminal check, another CPS clearance and another $500.00. And if we don't complete the adoption before the new HS expires, we will have to redo ours a fourth time!

Does anyone know if you can let your 171H lapse? Since I figured the HS update we had done in Nov would be OK for the USCIS, so I didn't initiate another update. Now I doubt I can get all of the HS stuff done and get the I600A sent off and "approved" before the current I171H expires. I'm a little bit worried.

Anyway... enough complaining. Thanks for letting me vent!

We are going to have to pay about $250.00 for the update. We will be meeting with our sw one time and in addition have to provide updated medicals, child abuse clearance forms, and police clearance letters. I'm not sure what happens if you let the I171H expire. Our I171H expires in at the end of July and we already started working on the update. It doesn't seem fair that you have to have a new update three months after having one done. It is weird how some agencies charge more than others. I guess I got lucky. I used an out of state agency and had to find my own sw.

We had to pay $900 for an update and do CPS, Police Report, Physicals, Reference Letters and Employment Letter and Financial Statement--almost everything.

I know our 171 was due to expire in Jan 07 and when we called uscis about a question they asked why we were updating in dec. so I woud think that expiring would be ok, but I would call them and see what they say. The Baltimore office has been very nice to us so hopefully yours will be to you.

I think our update was $250, we needed new physical, another cps clearance and we only did an update with the sw over the phone.

It really is crazy looking over the replys and see all the different answers. I would think that the requirements would be more uniform.
