Has CCAA ever denied a dossier?
Today we received our LID...so tonight we downloaded our packet from our agency. It starts off with a "Congratulations" paragraph, and then leads into another paragraph stating "The CCAA has the ultimate authority to approve or deny your dossier. We will keep you informed of any significant changes or questions from the CCAA as they are made available to us."
Has CCAA ever denied anyone? If they would, what would be the reasons? I thought "Whew, we made it!" Is this anything to worry about? ![]() |

The CCAA has denied dossiers
I know of a few last year where the parents were turned down for medical reasons. The one that really sticks out in my head in the family where the husband was in a wheelchair. CCAA in the past had adopted to families where one parent was in a wheelchair, but they turned this one down. Of course, we don't know the whole story, but all that I heard was about the wheelchair.I've heard until you have your child in your hands, nothing is assured. Having said that, I like to think most agencies do a great job of screening their families and most people don't have to stress. |

I've been worrying about the same thing latey since my DH has diabetes and is overweight. Though we'll hopefully be "grandfathered in", I can't help but worry that when we hit the review room we'll be rejected.

I have diabeties and weigh 330 pounds. My daughter is gorgeous. Yes it's possible they will deny you, but I was not so I think you have a good chance.

Yes, people have had dossiers rejected. The reasons usually have to do with criminal history or medical problems. Good agencies can generally tell whether a dossier will pass muster with the CCAA, although there are occasional surprises.

![]() Do you know if they were in the review room? (I'm guessing so). Can you share any more info about the particular health reason? |

They were denied in the review room. No sorry. My agency is understandably keeping that information confidential.

I guess I just don't understand how they can get so far into the process only to get rejected. For something that is such a long awaited, emotion filled process, to get that far into the wait only to be rejected for something that apparently allowed them into their agency program is appalling to me.
It makes me angry because I have a health condition that could easily be misconstrued as more serious than it really is. My doctor has indicated that it won't affect my ability to parent, etc., but I'm assuming those people had similar doctor letters, too. It kind of makes me feel like it won't matter if we make it in before May 1 if they'll just reject later in the matching room.

That's a very scary thought.

I hear all of you! Our situation is similar, we don't have the medical issues, but we are both 51,and age is very difficult to change! We are already DTC, but have concerns about getting rejected because of the May 1st restriction on age. By the time we hit the review and matching rooms the "New" rules could be a year old...at least! Will they have the mind set to match us with a child??
We've been to China, accompanying our daughters family to adopt our granddaughter (2 years ago) It is her inspiration that keeps us going. She is so precious. The group of parents we travelled with in China included an older couple adopting a 3 year old, she has blossomed here and is so lucky! Their experience encouraged us as well. It was a huge leap to convince ourselves, that with 2 bio kids in their 30s, we could do it again! When we made the leap, a month later the CCAA announced the new age restriction. Even before the announcement I was driving my DH crazy with appointments (I'm the humming bird of the family, he is the laid back kind), but he was sure glad we were well on our way when we got the news from our agency! Anyway, we did our legwork and got the DTC well before the May 1st deadline, but you can't help but worry. If each of us can manage to bring home one of these deserving children it will be worth all the stress and strife. Hang in there and Keep the faith!! ![]() |

We just passed review this month and I was on pins and needles wondering the same thing.
Once you pass review - can they (somewhere along the line) still reject you? I think about that a lot - we don't have any medical issues, but I still think about it and if something were to happen up until then... Megi

I have heard of at least one case that was rejected in the matching room. I believe that was for a medical issue.
But the review room is the place for review. I wouldn't worry about it. Once you're out of review you should be good-to-go! |

So, for those of you who have already passed the review room, how long was it until you knew, from when you were logged in?

I really think it is the agency's responsibility to catch every little thing that could go wrong, and head it off at the pass. For someone to get that far with an agency and then be rejected in the review room, is unacceptable.
Our agency is extremely careful to cover every aspect of the "what if"s. When ANYTHING comes up, they get documentation from the couple or from a professional to support the adoption, and then take the steps required to ensure there are no red flags. That's also why couples should be brutally honest with their SWs. Their job is help you get to the point that you can be considered for adoption. And a good agency will ensure that everything necessary gets taken care of, or brought to the forefront before DTC, so there are no surprises later. I would much rather know if something could potentially disqualify us BEFORE DTC, than after. It makes me wonder of the dossiers rejected in the review room, are because they are not prepared up front, for potential situations. Then, lead them to believe that the dossier is misleading, which could discredit the integrety of the couple or the agency.
