China adoption and diabetes
Hello. I am new here. After seven years of considering international adoption, my husband and I feel called more now than ever to proceed. Strict new health requirements in China have us a bit nervous. My husband is a Type 1 diabetic. Do you know anyone who has been allowed or rejected to adopt due to diabetes? Your insight is welcome.
FYI-I am healthy and the only health issue either of us have is the diabetes. Thanks.

I don't know the answer to that question but I recommend you get a firm answer before you sign with an agency. There have been some agencies that have accepted people's money then told them later they didn't meet the criteria and wouldn't refund.

Two of us in my travel group had diabeties--myself being one, so it has happened. The rules have changed, but diabeties has not specifically been named as a factor to "rule you out". However the statement about disease is open ended and it's possible a diabetic will be refused just on that fact. No one really knows yet as far as I know. When I spoke to my agency they told me they wouldn't accept me with diabeties anymore (even if I were to get under the 40 BMI) unless I went through the pre-approval process. I do not know what that entails, but when you begin speaking to agencies ask them if PA is recommended and possible in your situation!

My husband is also a Type 1 diabetic and our agency told us it would be smart to look elsewhere. This is coming from a good friend who works in that agency. The new regulations do not spell out diabetes as an exclusion but it is up to China's interpretation about what " fully healthy" and "severe disease" mean and they could change at any time. We didn't want to get half-way there and have them decide we are out. I think we are moving onto Vietman since our agency is licesenced with them. Good Luck!

I've known of people in the past who have adopted with diabetes. I currently have friends where one spouse was Type 1 and the other is pre-diabetic and their agency has told them they do not foresee any issues because of that. They are, however, already LID.
As mentioned before, I would double check with any agencies you're considering signing with to be sure. Good luck! |

Diabetes
HI!
My husband is a diabetic & we have a October LID. If you get all your paperwork in before the new rules start applying- you should be fine- just rush everything & get it in! :-) GOOD LUCK! Melissa
