Ok here it goes..... I will not be 30 until December 30 2007. I know I can start the process 6 months before then. My question is what things can I do prior to my 30birthday. Also according to the current timelines is it possible I could have my daughter home at the end of 2009??? When should I also contact an agency? Thanks for your help!

As you know there are some things that can expire if done too early. But you can start writing your autobiography. It's required for most homestudies, probably useful for the SW even if it's not required.
You can, at least, start researching agencies. Attend mulitple information sessions, as you have the time to do so. I can't really say about the timeframe. I don't even know if our adoption will be completed in two years. We hope so, but don't know for sure. I hope you find productive, meaningful ways too fill your time while you wait to turn 30. I always laugh that people adopting from China are the only ones anxious to reach their 30th birthdays! ![]() |

Make sure you have certified copies of birth certificates, marriage certificates, passports, etc. Passports are taking a few months to get right now.

I just wanted to say good luck with everything! Ditto on the passports- that can be done way in advance and you will save yourself the rush feels (BTDT).

I have had this exact question in my mind for a few days now. I am 23 and cannot adopt until I am 25. I have already picked the country I want to adopt from and the agency I want to use (there are only 3 so the decision was easy to make, lol). I have even picked my 2nd country of choice. When I contacted the agency to ask what I can do beforehand and at what point should I start the entire process I was told to not research too much right now because the Hague Convention has made substantial changes for international adoption beginning in 2007.
How long does it take for a passport to expire?

Here's an overview I found about Hague. Hague Convention
I've been told by my agency that since we're logged in it won't effect us. But that families who sign up after implementation will be affected. |
