Anyone considering other countries?

With the long wait for China looming, I was wondering if anyone out there has thought about switching. If so, what countries caught your eye? Thanks. Erik

My heart belongs to China, but hubby and I are discussing Vietnam should greater restrictions be imposed at the first of the year.

We are almost one year into our wait (LID of 11/22/05) and we are with a China-only agency, and our hearts are with China - so no, we have not ever considered switching.

Nah, this is a one shot deal for us - unless our circumstances change! We also selected a China-only agency as we strongly believe our daughter is in China (well she will be eventually...I'm guessing she's not close to being born yet!)

But, I'm itching for a December LID just in case some things do change....

Hi Lissa,

I was wondering what you meant by possible greater restrictions imposed come January. Someone posted earlier about the Hague ? Convention and that it was very interesting. I didn't know if that has anything to do with your comment. Since the waiting times have greatly increased I'm always concerned now that something will mess up our adoption.

CCAA meets to review their guidelines yearly. Changes are possible but not necessarily guarenteed to occur. As my health is a concern (diabetic and 300lb +)I tend to keep an eye out around the end of the year.

Well we are with a China only agency because my heart is there but that said duing the paper chase I did look at other programs just in case. Vietnam was the leading program.

Other programs we looked at Guatamala (I hear big changes are coming). We also looked briefly at Ethiopia.

We adopted a SN daughter from China on 7/25/06 and are starting toward adoption number 2 which will be our child number 5. We are also considering Taiwan. We are waiting to see our agency's new SN list at the end of Nov and if we don't have a "match" we think we will start the process with a different agency and go for Taiwan. We want a 3-5 ish aged daughter this go round.

We have not thought about another country. Our heart is with China but may put off our adoption journey for a couple of years and try fertiltiy treatments one more time aroung. As a matter of fact I have an appointment in just a few hours with our fertility doc. Wish me luck. We have two boys from IVF and ICSI. We will not do IVF again as dh's sperm situation is just too bad to risk that kind of money so we will see what our options are. Probably IUI with donor sperm or donor embryo adoption.

Talking

I truly feel that China is for us. I don't care how long it takes... that's where our daughter is.
