IL Question

How long does it take to receive the 171H after the Homestudy is sent in? Once we go in for fingerprints how long does it take to get our fingerprint information back? Do we need to write international adoption on the envelope? Thank you very much

Our agency submitted our homestudy and we received our fingerprint appointment letter three weeks later. Because we live in southern Illinois, we were fingerprinted at the St. Louis CIS office. The St. Louis office cleared our fingerprints the next day and immediately submitted them to the Chicago office for us. They warned us that the Chicago office was extremely slow. We got our 171-H from Chicago four weeks after our fingerprints were taken---it made for a wonderful anniversary surprise!

I think that time was very good. I am waiting for my homestudy(should be ready in a week) and the SW said it may be as long as 12 weeks to get to the 171H, but count on at least 8 weeks. Maybe since they moved, they are speeding up?? Or am I just hoping! I'm single and trying hard to get LID before Jan 1. SO I am hoping for 8 weeks or less.

Question Chicago USCIS

Chicago is VERY slow and 12 weeks seems to be about what you should expect. We submitted the I-600 mid April, Homestudy 2nd week May and fingerprinted end of June and I-171 mid July.

I am sorry - I was told it takes twelve weeks just to process our fingerprint results, is this right?
