She's Ours
On Monday, we applied for and was appoved to send our LOI to China for a little girl with a corrected cleft lip and uncorrected cleft palate. She was born May 1, 2005. Everyone is so excited and we can't wait to go to China and get her. Any advice on cleft palates would be appreciated.
Linda

Linda Congratulations!
Our son is cleft affected and we haven't found a great deal of information that is useful since every condition is different. I will tell you that there are doctors who specialize in cleft affected children and we intend to get referred to one as soon as our son comes home so we will know exactly how he is affected and how to treat him.

Thanks
Thanks everyone. I've really been spending alot more time on the internet looking at cleft palate sites, packing lists, etc. Now everything seems so real with a specific child in mind.

Congratulations! We traveled in June to get our son. He also has a cleft palate and his lip was repaired in China. He is the absolute light of our lives. There is a yahoo group for cleft information that I would check out. There is a wealth of information on the internet. Our son has his first surgury scheduled for Oct 3rd. I am very nervous but I have confidence in our doctor. He is very experienced. He has traveled several times to China to fix clefts. He has been to our son's province but he was not there when his lip was repaired.
I would recommend that you take lots of bibs to China. We only took a few cloth and a package of disposible ones. Cleft babies tend to be big droolers. Other than that I don't see how he is any different than most other babies. He ate fine. As far as drinking, we bought someof the Mead Johnson cleft bottles. Our son was 19 months but still took a bottle. We also like the Nuke sippy cups. They have a soft top and you can make the opening wider with a knife if need be. Our son kind of chews them to drink. Those are about all I can think of now. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Debbie
