From what I was told last year, both parents are required to be over 30. This is China's law, not the US's, so even if they approve you here, you'll likely not be given a child there under 30.
However, you will likely find an agency that will let you start the process at 29, as long as you both will be over 30 by the referal or travel date.

From the CCAA's website for "What requirements should the adopters meet?" under international adoption:
(4)30 years old. “By 30 years old” is meant to indicate one’s 30 full years of age. When a couple jointly adopts a child, both of them should reach the age of 30. |

We had the same thing...DH was only 28...the agency said to wait until about 5 months before he turned 30 to start the homestudy...that way the application/dossier could be sent to China as soon as he turned 30.

Ok...
Does that mean that you can start the proceedings as long as the adoption goes through when you're 30, or that you should be 30 when your file reaches China? I'm 27 now, but my dh is 34 already.

We were told that we both needed to be 30 years old when our dossier reached China, as the age restriction is China's law. That way when the CCAA reviews your information, you will both be 30 years old.
Basically, our agency told us to try to time it so that we could send off our dossier to China as soon as my husband turned 30. hope this helps |

Both parents must turn 30 BEFORE your paperwork is logged in at the CCAA. See my timeline below.

Thanks for that- alot more clear info than our local authority!-suprisingly! My husband Nick is 30 and i am 25 so we would have to wait another 5 years
we are so desparate to be parents. We were considering Korea but having alook at another post- you can't just choose girls. Oh well at least it give us plenty of time to get the house and garden sorted! In the States they seem to be alot more open to intercountry adoption- here its a bit of battle - and made to feel guilty about all the UK children needing homes. Having spoken to many, many people and done research into Uk adoptions and Intercountry adoption we feel intercountry fits us best. Surely giving any child a good home is just as important, especially when they don't have the fostering system we have over here?! |
