We have our home study on Saturday morning. Anyone have any information on what to expect? I guess I should make sure our smoke detectors are working and all? I'm obsessing about the littlest things. The social worker said she tries to make it very informational as well which is good. ![]()

Take a deep breath - it will be fine.
She asked to see the smoke detectors and fire extinguisher. She wanted to see the baby's room (currently a guest room). Mostly it was an informal discussion, reviewing our bios, talking about the adoption and discussion of our plans as parents. No biggee. ![]() |

Congrats!
Congrats! One more step towards your child! :-)
After our BRIEF, VERY BRIEF tour of the house, which did NOT include closets or drawers, our social worker asked if we had smoke detectors- it was just one of many questions, no big deal. My best advice- BE YOURSELF! Your social worker has done this so many times, it's old hat & routine for him/her. She WANTS to think the best & WANTS to approve you, and most people do get approved. Just to help you relax- two home study stories, this should put your mind at ease: 1) My husband is a diabetic. Good, christian, sweet man. Well, he was nervous about the visit, so he didn't eat much, and is a diabetic. So, halfway into the FIRST visit, he starts acting funny, and I realize he has low blood sugar (talking slow like a drunk) I was going to try to get some sugar for him, but then the social worker said something- and I was rambling, and my husband said "WHY DON'T YOU JUST SHUT UP?!" It floored me, cause it is NOT something he would say, plus in front of the social worker- I explained the sugar thing- she was VERY calm, didn't even freak out, I got him sugar, then we proceeded. (My heart didn't calm down for a LONG time) 2) On the second visit, we were sitting at the kitchen table, and my husband passed some gas- the social worker said "Where's the duck?" then continued as normal. So, if we can get approved- anyone can :-) Hey- wait a minute- was my husband trying to sabatog the home study? :-) Just wanted to show you a few things that happened, and we still adopted, and are on the second adoption. BEST WISHES! Melissa
