A Lottery?

So I've spoken to 2 different reputable china agencies and both basically say a single adopting from China is done in a "lottery" manner. So sure, I can apply when the "lottery" goes on sale this winter...but that doesn't mean I'd "earn" a slot. (words in quotes=oxymoron)
I don't know..but the whole idea of holding "lotteries" for adoption just doesn't sit well with me morally. I would much rather hear a "case by case" mentally, rather than...OOOOh,,,I just won the adopton lottery...it seem stupid and morally repulsive.
Just venting...

I'm single (although I adopted before the quota system) and I've never heard of a "lottery". Friends have put themselves on several waiting lists and eventually received a call from one of the agencies. I suggest you check out the yahoo group for singles

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/single-adopt-china/

good luck.

Some agencies use a lottery, but many do not. Check around.

Possibly the wait-time for a single would be so long that the only way anyone would sign-up is if they have a chance of "winning the lottery" and getting a early date...just a thought. If there isn't a lot of up-front $$$, why not?

It's a lottery for the slot. You still have to "qualify" with an application and still have a homestudy and everything else with your dossier.

That's how I was BLESSED with my slot with one of the large China only agencies and I am grateful after waiting on lists for 1.5 years AND being turned down by another LARGE only China agency who had people submit for the slots and they decided who got the slots with absolutely no explanation. That is absolutely their right to do, however if they don't pick you, they won't give you a reason why at all, leaving many to wonder.

Hi Julie,
It sounds like we are probably with the same agency. I'm a single too. Where are you in the process?
