Thank you so much to everyone who posted about Thalassemia. We took the medical information that we had on the little girl that we were considering to our pediatrician yesterday and he reviewed her bloodwork. He says that he is confident that she is just a carrier of the trait! We were so relieved because we had already fallen in love with her and would have been heartbroken if her condition was such that we did not feel we could care for her.

We faxed an application into the agency this morning (yes we will have to change agencies) requesting that we be able to adopt her. They called back about twenty minutes later and said that our application had been accepted and she would be waiting for us.

Soooo, we are not considering anymore. We are adopting Qing Hai. She will be 2 next month and is at the Social Welfare Institute in Nanhai District, Foushan.
She is precious!!!! She has ASD also, but the ultrasound of her heart shows that it is very minor and it is possible that it may correct itself.

Our whole family is so excited!! I can't believe that I am able to post that we are adding this wonderful child to our family. Wahoooooo!!! Can you tell I'm just a little happy?

Congrats on your new little girl! Do you have an English name for her or are you going to call her Qing Hai?

That's the question of the day. We had always planned to use Ella as a first name and keep part of the Chinese name for a middle name when we found our baby girl. But, she will be 2 1/2 when we bring her home and our nine year old son is insisting that she keep her Chinese name. He said it just wasn't fair for her to have to change the name that she is used to already. He says that she won't know we're talking to her if call her Ella and we should use that as her middle name and use her Chinese names as her first. I thought that was pretty insightful for a nine year old boy. So DH and I are going to talk about it and see what we think is best.

We had the same dilemna with naming our daughter. She will be close to 3 when we bring her home. We were originally going to name her Kaitlyn but decided on a name that we can incorporate her Chinese name into. Her current name is Lei (they call her LeiLei) so we decided on Ashlei but will continue to use Lei or LeiLei as her nickname.

My sister will be 2 before we get her and Chinese name is Kai Jin. We're still gonna call her Reese. You could call her Ella QingHai for a while so she gets used to having the 2 connected and then gradually pull away to just Ella. Just my insight if you really want to name her Ella.

Thanks for the suggestions on the names. Not sure what we will do, we are still riding high on excitement over just knowing that she will be ours! I have some pictures that we were able to print and show to our doctor. They say in dark letters that that are not to be distributed or placed for public view. Anyone else who has selected a waiting child care to comment on your experience with pictures? PM me if you would like. Is there a "picture police"?lol
