Lost Dossier

Hey everyone, I thought that I read a while ago about a family that had their dossier lost on it's way to China.

Well we just had the unfortunate luck to have ours lost, (or misdelivered) as UPS says. I have filled out a missing package report, but, they have 8 days to try to find it, and we are were supposed to ship this week, and now our agency is holding our group until the 8 days are up, so that we can hopefully stay with our travel group.

Anyone here have any pull with UPS? Anyone have any ideas to try that might help find it?

If they don't find it, we will have to replace all of our dossier. I have some duplicates, but some of them were the originals, and we'll have to authenticate all over again, putting us months further behind.

This is just so crappy! Anyway anyone have any ideas?

Ugh! I am so very sorry to hear this This was a huge fear of mine. UPS actually did lose one of our items (my DH's authenticated BC from the SF Chinese Consulate). It was lost for about 2 weeks, and they did finally find it - the package was all battered like it had been stuck under something. I was so thankful that they found it. The person at the 1-800-UPS number (or whatever it is) was not very helpful when I called about it, so I then called the UPS Store where we had shipped it from, and I basically sweet-talked the manager, and he made some calls to help me out. Maybe if you can find someone at UPS who is very sympathetic to the situation, that will help? I know it can happen at any shipping company, but we went with FedEx when we actually shipped our dossier, and there were no problems at all. I really hope that UPS can find your package *hugs*

I am so sorry that you are going through this! Our dossier was lost on the way to China but it turned out that they had scanned the wrong tracking information and it had actually been delivered. That week and a half that we were in limbo were truly some of the most stressful days of my life. I am so sorry that you are living that right now.

We used FedEx to ship our dossier and we didn't get any good help until we got in touch with their corporate office - maybe UPS is the same way. Once we got in touch with a good person who was dedicated to helping us we went from having a 95% chance that it was lost for good to knowing that it had already been delivered on the original delivery date within 36 hours.

I will keep my fingers crossed that you have as great of an outcome as we did!!

Thanks

Thanks for the encouraging words guys, but I'm thinking that it's gone.....
Breaking my heart that we've been set back like this, but I'm gonna just ask for new forms and start transferring all of the info onto new forms to be notarized and start over, as soon as the 8 days are up!
I cannot stand the thought of waiting any longer. When we started the process, we were shown information saying an average wait of 6 months, now it's almost a full year, I can't bear to think of what it'll be in a few months.
I'll post again to let everyone know if we manage to get it found, but I believe, this has just about done me in...
I feel like you guys at least understand my heartbreak! I know that my family means well, but they keep making remarks about making UPS reimburse us for it, but they are missing the point of the timeline, and being set back even further in our wait. Thanks Guys! I really mean it.

I am so sorry hebnix.

I agree that a price cannot be put on the item that was lost. I remember when FedEx asked us to declare a value when we sent in our dossier, and Adam and I had no idea what to say! We ended up saying 500 dollars, but we all know that it really is priceless.

Again, I am so sorry.

Not Good News

Well, UPS SUCKS!, sorry if that offends anyone, but after 5 days, they still hadn't started the investigation on our Lost Package! I was stunned when I heard that!
Now they haven't Officially told me it was lost, but the driver spoke with our agency, and said that he left it in the mailbox at the end of the lane.
After I spoke with our agency, and told them that painful as it may be, we understood that they would need to send the rest of our travel group without us.
They most suprisingly said that they were very hopefull that we could get a duplicate dossier together fast enough that they would wait for it.
So now we are working on a RUSHED version of the first. Luckily, I had ordered duplicates of almost anything that I could. I was planning on using them in China "just in case". Well I guess I have my "in case" now!
Anyway - Thanks for all of the support! I'll give any updates as they come in, but I'm only expecting the Official "It's lost, we are terribly sorry" call.
Thanks for understanding though!

I am sorry you still haven't gotten good news.

And, yes, I thinks "sucks" does apply here!!!

I admire your spirit, sounds like you are taking all the steps you can and not letting it get you completely down. (I would be a pity puddle about now, probably!)

I am STILL rooting for that lost paperwork to show up for you, but wish you a speedy redo just in case!!!

Hang in there, girl. You ARE going to get there!!!!

I am not offended, as I agree with you, hebnix! I am glad that you have duplicates and that your agency is being helpful, too! You do have a very good attitude about all of this.

Update

Just wanted to update anyone who had been following along with this CRAPPY turn of events!
We have duplicated all of our documents and are off to be authenticated at the state level in the morning, and then we are FEDEXing it to The Chinese consulate in New York.
We're of course going to need the same day service which is 50.00 per document, instead of the 20.00 that we paid for the service once already. Oh well, we'll be finished then.
It is supposed to be back in our hands on Thurs evening, and we are driving the 3 hours to our agency's office on Friday morning. So say a prayer or cross your fingers for us please! Hopefully we will be completed and crossing the pond, on Monday then! Wahoo!

This is so annoying but everything seems to be moving along fast now. I hope that you have asked (or are planning to ask) UPS to cover your expenses as a result of their mess up. They should pay for at least part of the expenses that you have incurred.

Good luck!
