Question on age requirement??
Hi, I was wondering if any of you know if they ever make an exception to the "over 30 rule"? I am almost 26, DH is 27. We have a beautiful daughter from Guatemala. We plan on starting our next adoption early 2007. We are both so drawn to China, it's a shame to wait 4 more years! Also, if there is not an exception to the rule, do you know at what point you have to be 30 (at the time of referral, before you even apply)?
Thank you so much in advance!

This is one of the hard and fast rules with China. You can start putting your paperwork together but it can not be sent to China until you are both 30. Sorry.

I second what Diana said. I have heard of people getting all their paperwork together (which can take several months) and then shipping the paperwork to China on thier 30th birthday.

Thanks for the replies. At least it's good to know we can send our paperwork in on my 30th bday!

I am waiting to turn 30 but could not start till I was 6 months from turning 30. Hubby already turned 30 so he was just waiting on me and that will be next month. It is hard to wait but we did for 3 almost 4 yrs. Now we are adopting a SN little boy that is 1 from China. Good Luck woth starting your journey again.

I'll second what Bernadette posted. We weren't able to start until December 2005. I turned 30 May 30th, 2006. (Our dossier went to China on June 9th!!). We couldn't really start any earlier because of deadlines and certificate "expiration" dates.
So, what you CAN do now is choose your agency and talk to them, but realistically, you can not start until you are about 6 months from your 30th birthday.
