are agencies accredited by china like they are in russia
Hi to the List,
I hope everyone is well. I am trying to do a little bit of research on China, because if things dont work out with Russia, we will be going the other way. I like to plan ahead. Currently in Russia there are only about 30 or so agencies that are "accredited" or given permission to work in Russia from the Russian govt. Is there such an equivalent in China? Are agencies accredited, or are there any number of agencies working in the country? If so, approx. how many agencies are working in China currently?( I bet it's a lot). Thanks again in advance, Amy K, NJ

This is a great question. I'm bumping up this thread so the evening crew will see--I am sure maybe Lissa or Sharon or SophiasMom will have an answer.
By the way, I've been reading your posts over the past few days and admire your thorough research of all avenues in the IA process. I hope you find the best program for your family! ![]() Best, Christina

Hi DrMalcom
Thanks for yoru help. I like to research things. Also, it comes a bit more naturally to me as I'm a librarian. We are going to give Russia two more shots(meaning ok referrals). If not, then it's highly likely we'll switch over to China. I have basically only heard good things about China. I wouldnt want to lose more time doing the research then, so Id like to get to know somethings now. Thanks and best to you too, Amy K, NJ

Yes they are.
Here's info off of one agency's site explaining the system: Choose a CCAA-Recognized Adoption Agency There are about ninety-three adoption agencies in the USA that are officially recognized by the China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA), a sub-governmental agency in Beijing, China, in charge of international adoption affairs in China, from accepting and screening adoption dossiers and making child matches, to issuing Adoption Travel Notices and collecting post placement reports. The CCAA has repeatedly and consistently stated that they will only accept an adoption dossier submitted by a CCAA-recognized agency. It is perfectly fine to work with an un-recognized agency that networks with a recognized agency for home study or post placement services, but do not put yourself in harm’s way by choosing someone who falsely claims their China adoption status. To find out an agency’s status with the CCAA, you can send an e-mail to the CCAA at mail@china-ccaa.org, or to the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute at info@ccainstitute.org. Joanne |

Ugh, I am so embarrassed that I didn't say ASK JOANNE. Joanne, forgive me, I have had a sinus headache for 2 weeks straight and I think I'm actually cross-eyed from the pressure. You are always so helpful; I'm so irritated that I didn't mention your name when I was mentioning all the helpful others!

Somewhere I came across the CCAA's evaluation system, they subtract 'points' for certain problems. I'll see if I can find it again.

Ratings
The CCAA is actually in the process of updating the ratings of the agencies right now.

There are a lot of agencies out there, but from what I've heard the ones labeled "accredited" are the ones to go with. There are some that aren't accredited. But I've heard the accredited ones are the most trustworthy.

from the Families with Children from China website (www.fwcc.org):
Do you have to use an adoption agency ? Yes. Changes in the regulations made in 1996 now require that all dossiers must be sent by adoption agencies that are registered with CCAA. In addition, all social workers involved in the home study must be employees of an adoption agency licensed to do China adoptions. |
