Brown Envelope... already?
Hi all,
Is it common to get the brown envelope before you even have your LID? It showed up out of the blue today! Also, my agency didn't say anything to us about it... do we need to do anything with it or is it just for reference until we get our referral? I had to laugh at the line that said "we look forward to seeing you here soon for your child's immigrant visa interview". Soon!! hahahahaha! ;-)

We never have received one but our agency told us not to worry, as time gets closer to our referral they will provide the information to us that is in the brown envelope

We also received our brown envelope 1 week after being DTC. I think it depends on which USCIS office you use on whether you get one and how fast you receive it. The documents in it are needed for obtaining the visa from the US consulate. If you don't get one, agencies will provide the documents.

Contact your agency. They may want your file # for their records. Receiving the 'brown envelop' has nothing to do with your LID date. It's based on when your I171 was filed.

Unless something has changed in the last year, the brown envelope is sent to you by the US Consulate in Guangzhou once they have received notice of your advance processing approval (I171H, or whatever it is called now.)
When you travel to China you will need to take the forms that are in the envelope with you. It does have great info about the process. Does seem strange that you got it so fast but with international adoption, you gotta take the quicks with the slows! Melanie Quote:

That's a good point, not everyone gets one and your agency should give you all of the same forms that are in the envelope.

We received ours very quickly like that too. There were others from our agency who are LID the same date as us who only just received their's in the past month or two.
