Wishing I had requested a different age range
We started on the China path in Jan'05 and after some difficulties with immigration and a change of jobs we were only LID on 09/12. Now the wait has stretched out to more than double what we were expecting and my DD is 4 1/2. Originally we had requested 0-18 months old, but the social worker had changed it to 0-12 months old and we said that was fine. With all the delays, I now feel an 18-24 months old would have been a better fit for our family so the girls can be closer in age and play together better. We've already gone through the critical review, so it's probably too late, but I've been thinking about that lately.

I know how you feel. We also requested 0-12 with the thought that we would be home by now with our child. Now with the extended wait, we may not get a referral this year (hoping this isn't true, but better to be prepared I guess). Had I know this, I would have requested older. I spoke to our agency and they said it is best to leave it alone. They also said when you request an infant the child can be anywhere from 6 months to 18 months. I chalk it up to a leap of faith and trust that we will all get the children we were meant to get.
Good luck, and it can't hurt to call your social worker and chat about your concerns. |

It is not too late for you to request a change. Contact CCAI (your dossier rep) and discuss it with that person. You write up an amended adoption petition and explain why you want a certain age child. I think it just needs to be notarized. You then send it to the agency and they will forward it.
I don't know what months of dossiers are in what review room but it's worth trying.... Joanne |

I too made some paperwork decisions I later had second thoughts about...I know SW have the best of intentions but one thing I've learned is I know more now about Chinese adoption than most of them and some of their suggestions were less than stellar. For all of you about to start always put your heart down. It keeps the wait less stressful. (And any thing that makes the wait less stressful is welcomed!)

Good morning!
I've just found this site... not sure if I should start a new thread... have questions regarding China-specific adoption (husband and I just submitted application for home study last week). Any guidance would be wonderful! P.S. -- What does 'DTC' and 'LID' refer to? |

Welcome to the China board. Yes, it would be a good idea for you to start a new thread if you have questions about the adoption process. - DTC is Dossier to China (date your agency sends your dossier to China) - LID is Log in date (date your dossier was logged in in China) Good luck! ![]() |

I'm not sure if you can change your request but it is just a request. In our group, one couple requested a 12-24 month old and got a 9 month old while another couple requested as young as possible and got an 18 month old. Parents age didn't seem to be the reason.

I requested up to 18 months several others in my group requested 0-12. I received one of the youngest babies while others had to do addendums. We all got the perfect babies for our family.
