physical exam ???

Now that we have started our paperchase I have to prepare my DH for his exam. He is a BIG baby when it comes to doctors. He hates having his blood pressure taken, gags when you try to take his temp and passes out with needles. Sounds fun, huh?? So what tests do they generally take? I know they take blood but what else do they test for? Do they do EKG's etc...

Thanks

Your agency should have a doctor report for them to fill out. But it is very basic, blood work, listen to heart, ask questions, get your weight. Really a no biggy (except for your husband). Just tell him he doesn't have to deliver the baby only give a little of himself (blood) to receive the baby. Best wishes.

We have friends who want to adopt, too, and are worried about this. The dh has to be knocked out to give blood. They make a special appt to have this done.

The blood tests are for HIV and some other things. He'll also have to give a urine sample. Most docs have the thermometors that they can put in your ear, instead of the mouth. Have him ask for that option. Tell your dh to watch his bp, though! You don't want that to be high on your medical form. Maybe he can do the blood tests on a different day than the exam? That might help a little.

Good luck!

PS- no, you won't need an EKG or anything big like that.

Thanks for the info. We went to the E.R. this weekend because he had a stomache flu. It reminded me of how bad he is at the Dr. At least now I can prepare him.

I can relate!

Hey are we married to the same man?

My husband is the biggest baby about the doctor. He was such a troper, but his liver enzymes were elevated and he has to have his labs redone in 6 to 8 weeks!

Glad to know Im not the only one married to a big baby! It doesnt sound like the exam will be to stressful for him. He's not a fan of the sticky tabs they use for EKG's so he will be happy to hear that he wont have to deal with that. Thanks everyone!!

Oh my goodness, I am sitting here at my desk at work laughing because I thought only my dh acted this way. When we went for our exams back in 10/03 dh was a nervous wreck. He hates going to the doctor and actually hyperventilates when he gets his blood pressure taken. I was so embarressed at our exams. Needless to say he had to have his taken a few times (which really tortured him) because they had to wait till he calmed down to get the right reading (it came up high the first few times because he was nervous). I will never forget my doctor looking at me and saying "Is your husband always a nervous nelly?" Oh, gosh was I embarressed. Then his white blood cell count came back slightly elavated so my he had to go back a week later to have it redone. It was only due to a little cold he had but my doctor wanted it perfect to put on our adoption paper. Of all people though to have to go back.

Bottomline: Hang in there and know that there are apparently alot of men like that out there. It will be over quickly and will be a funny little story someday! LOL!

Mine is much the same way. He passed out after a tetanus shot a few years ago.

Our physicals we're completed last week. They we're quick and painless. DH even managed to avoid passing out (he didnt have much luck with that at our IVF doctor's office). I already have the reports back so I will send them to my homestudy agency tomorrow. looks like we will have our first visit soon.

Question Is high blood pressure an issue?

does china have a problem if the bp is high? a few of you mentioned it so i thought I would ask. I have heard they are getting more stringent lately with requirements, just wondered if any1 heard anything or had any information on health requirements. thanks

p.s. I have hbp, controlled w/ meds. my agency never mentioned this being a possible problem w/ CCAA
