Children's programming

Okay...which ones do you actually like, which ones can you tolerate and which ones are you just never gonna let your child see?

I honestly LOVE the Doodlebops and like The Wiggles.

I can tolerate Barney and Teletubbies.

BooBahs are EVIL!!!

We did not let Gabriella watch any TV until well after she was 2. I don't even remember when we started letting them watch TV but it was definately not until sometime after Sophia arrived so I'm not all that familiar with children's programming.

I don't even know what the Doodlebops is/are!?

They get to watch Dora the Explorer and Blues Clues. I like both shows and I like that they try to be interactive.

Sesame Street has always had a place in my heart; in fact, I can't wait for my daughter to come home just so I can watch it again. And I did cry when Mr. Rogers died.

I've been out of the loop as far as children's shows are concerned since my son is Animal-Planet-All-The-Way now, but I used to love Zooboomafoo and the Kratt Brothers. And Magic Treehouse was fabulous.

I wish MPT woudl take a poll, as it seems there are a lot for really young children (Teletubbies, BooBahs), but not so much for the almost-school-age children. My son was never into Barney, but did like the songs on the Wiggles, although that was toward the end of his time watching the "kids' shows."

I could not tolerate Caliou, though luckily my son never could either. Is that one still on?

We love Dora and her cousin Diego. We also enjoy Blues Clues and the Backyardagains. They are mostly Nick Jr because I don't enjoy the Disney channel offerings as much now and our PBS has gone to the sprout thing were the shows are only 15 min with "interaction in between" I am not comfortable leaving the room because I never know who will be on when I get back (No, I am not using it as a babysitter but laundry and the bathroom take a minute or two).

Okay, my boys don't watch much TV either, but they like (and I let them) watch Blue's Clues, Dora and Disney's Little Einsteins. All are very interactive and very education oriented.

Diana, what is the sprout thing? I've been out of the loop for a while. Fifteen minute programming--that sounds odd. I wonder why?

Sesame is still on, I hope!

Sesame Street in number 1 in my book! I absolutely refuse to let the Teletubbies grace my tv screen...

Love Sesame Street. Dora and Blues are pretty good as they're interactive.

Barney was a FAV in our house but he's been shelved. Maybe the baby will like him when she's older.

Right now, the #1 program in our house is Jack's Big Music Show on Nogg'n. My kids love it; they sing and dance the entire time it's on.

I love Sesame Street and I can handle Teletubbies (for Olivia's sake) but I can't deal with the Boobah's. What exactly do they teach children? We have digital cable (its free here so we take whatever is free--lol). They have tons of shows that you can watch anytime and they have alot of education shows such as Baby Genius, Smart Baby, etc. Olivia loves them and has learned so much from them. I do like the Wiggles and think they are very entertaining.

Its funny because I know all the words to all the Wiggles songs. Olivia hated the car from day 1. The only way to keep her calm was to play children CD's. I have heard a million songs in the car as she still has to have "her" music on in the car and I must say the ones I have enjoyed the most are the Wiggles.

My daughter Miranda ADORES Barney! She tries to dance to all the songs and is so cute to watch. She is always asking for me to turn it on by saying "Bah Bah Bah" and if I say no the kid goes and turns on the DVD and TV herself! She is also beginning to pay attention to the Wiggles. She liked Teletubbies for a while but does not now. She also watchs a little bit of Sesame Street.

Calliou bugs the daylights out of me! I find him to be so bratty!

My boys love animal planet too! Most Extreme is their favorite, amazing the things they have learned. At times the content seems a bit too mature, however it seems to go right over their heads.

One of our favorites is Stanley from Playhouse Disney. It is amimal centered which my kids love!

I think what got me the most, Stephanie, was the fact that Caliou was supposed to be something like 4 years old, but he still spoke in a babyfied (if that's a word) tone. I didn't think it was very encouraging for growing and developing children.

Yes, with some of the Animal Planet programs, I know what you mean about having to monitor. The show about the officers who handle animal cruelty can really upset me as an adult!

We have the new Animal Planet Australia exhibit at the Baltimore Aquarium, so my son thought that was really cool--imagine, the Animal Planet logo on something HERE!

Gwen is picky. She won't pay attention to just any ol' thing. But her taste isn't perfect either!

Sesame Street is a big favorite. Specifically "Elmo's World" so we purchased a few DVD's of that. Mr Noodle cracks me up!

Tubbies amuse her if it's the part where they're actually doing their Tubby thing and not the mini documentaries they show (twice). She loses interest during those parts.

High Five: Love it! She does too!

The Wiggles creep me out. Something about grown men with no talent pretending to appeal to little kids. Yuck! And the lyrics to the songs have no redeeming value!

Doodlebops have a good message and Dee Dee Doodle has a great voice!

Little Einsteins implies that you're smart if you like classical music and I think that's not necessarily true. The plot is sorta stupid too. In other words, mommy and daddy don't like this one even though Gwenny seems to.

Dora The Explorer is bi-lingual and we're trying to focus on English and (maybe) Mandarin. Spanish is a distraction at this point. Maybe we'll like it later.

Nickelodeon has a great lineup. Mommy and Daddy like Spongebob and Jimmy Neutron and The Fairly Odd Parents. Gwen puts up with them but would prefer something else (like the Higgley Town Heros but that makes us wanna puke!)

I'm sure there are plenty of people who disagree with our list!

Whitley was a BIG Barney/Wiggles girl at one time. We tolerated Teletubbies and luckily she would cry everytime Boobah came on. (That show was not popular in our area so it was removed from our lineup, thank goodness.) Now she still loves "Elmo's World", "Dora", and she's watching old episodes of "Full House". She says she 'understands' Michelle (the youngest girl). She also watches Rachel Ray on the Food Network. As long as I'm alive and able..."Spongebob" will not be allowed. I despise that show and I hear enough about it at school. She loves dancing to music so she is allowed to watch American Idol. Sometimes we'll find something interesting on the Animal Planet channel like the funny animal videos. She is now beginning to enjoy the old "Tom and Jerry" cartoons. I know that cartoon has been black-listed because of the "violence" but hey, I grew up on them and I am not a violent person nor did my brother and I ever try to do anything to each other like Tom and Jerry. :-)

Red face Electronic Babysitter - I'm Guilty

Josie is only 13 months but she LOVES Sesame Street and Elmo's World. She babbles and waves to the Teletubbies. She gets very excited at Zaboomafoo with the Kraft bros.

I bought a Wiggles DVD for the car so she only watches them occasionally.

The Doodlebops are too freaky for us right now.

Sagwa is a favorite because they sing in Chinese at the beginning, but only for a line or two. I like watching Sagwa because it shows some characters that remind me of my in-laws!
