Question form a newbie
I hope that this doesn't sound like a dumb question but I came across some information that I'm having trouble confirming.
Some background: Hi everyone we have 2 boys(biological) and would like to adopt a third child...would like to have a little girl We are just now starting the process as far as trying to learn about the programs and then will really start in the fall. We'd like to adopt in the next 2-4 years. We are focusing mostly on China and Korea at this point. As I was reading about China I came across something that said that infertile or childless couples were perfered and that it was difficult to adopt from China if you already had children. It said that the only children you could adopt would be those orphaned that had documented death certificates for the parents. That doesn't seem right to me is there any truth to that? This is the information that I was reading AGE AND CIVIL STATUS REQUIREMENTS: Chinese law differentiates between an abandoned child (with one or both parents living) and an orphan (both parents deceased). The law restricts adoption of healthy abandoned children with one or both parents living to childless person 35 years old or older, and only permits the adoption of one healthy child. There are exceptions if you are adopting a relative''s child. Persons who are under 35 years old and/ or who already have child (ren) are only permitted to adopt orphans (requiring proof that both biological parents are deceased) or handicapped children. Persons seeking to adopt orphans or handicapped children are permitted by Chinese law to adopt more than one such child. The Chinese law permits adoption by married couples and single persons. The CCAA also has advised that "adoption applications from homosexual families are not acceptable." The Adoption Law of the People''s Republic of China adopted by the 23rd meeting of the seventh National People''s Congress Standing Committee on December 29, 1991 (effective April 1, 1992) provides that, with certain exceptions, children under the age of 14 in the following categories may be adopted: (a) Orphans who lost their parents (b) Abandoned children whose birth parents cannot be found (c) Children whose birth parents are incapable of providing for them because of unusual hardship. Restriction on age of adopting parent(s) and restriction on adopting more than one child may be waived when: 1) the children being adopted are blood relatives of the adopting parent(s), 2) the children being adopted are orphans, or 3) the children are handicapped. All requests to adopt more than one child are given special consideration by the Chinese authorities and processed on a case-by-case basis. In cases involving the adoption of more than one child, Chinese authorities look carefully at the age of other child (ren) in the home, nature of handicap involved (if any), age and health of the adoptive parent(s), adoptive parent(s)'' physical and emotional ability to care for two or more children, financial ability to raise more than one child. |

As far as I know, having two boys is not going to hinder you from adopting from China. I have one bio son and have never had my agency question us adopting a little girl. I have also seen lots of families with multiple children adopt in China...I am sure you will get more confirmation on that with the folks here who have more experience...
![]() I have just weighed out the two options of China and Korea. Here is what I found: With China you have to do a dossier and Korea accepts your homestudy as enough info. The dossier is quite a job, but not impossible. So, paperwork wise, Korea is easier. Korea's system is western so the kids are in foster homes instead of orphanages. I think that is a perk. Everything else seems the same. However, China has an abundance of beautiful little girls!!! Check with agencies who are licensed in your state and get some wait times. I checked here in Nevada, and the wait time for a referral was 20 months. I bet in NC you have less wait times. Here is the state link: http://www.adoptkorea.com/us-agency.htm Good Luck with everything!! |

We have two bio kids (boy and girl). No one has suggested that we will have any problems. We are done with home study and just waiting for 171H, so it seems that we would know if there was going to be a problem already - hopefully

My cousin who adopted from China almost a year ago has 3 bio children (2 boys & 1 girl) & they had no problem adopting a girl.
I also know that others in our travel group have bio kids & they never mentioned any problems with adopting from China because of that. |

We have 3 bio children, 2 boys and 1 girl. Our agency has never mentioned any concern about our three children.

much of that original info appears outdated to me. that said, it won't surprise me at all to see the ccaa institute new types of quotas in the near future.
