This confuses me

but then, the Chinese governemnt confuses a lot of people.

Because I'm bored and feel like immersing myself in adoption info, I decided to go to the CCAA website.

They have an FAQ page for international adoptions and the first question is what requirements are there for international adopters. I figured, ok, maybe if there's info about weight and other health issues anywhere, it might be here.

What threw me for a loop, tho, is requirement number one:

1、In accordance with the provisions set forth in the Adoption Law of the People's Republic of China, the adopters should meet simultaneously the following requirements:

(1)Childless.
“By childless” is meant to indicate that the adopters have neither biological children, nor any adopted children, nor step-children.

I know there used to be a rule a few years ago that people with children could only adopt SN kids.

But this was posted as of 10/2005.

But that can't be right...I mean I've seen a bunch of blogs where people with kids already in the household have adopted.

But I don't know what to think any more

I really think that has to be one of those things they say, but they don't enforce.

I think I know more people who've adopted from China who have kids at home than those who are adopting as first time parents.

The only thing I can possibly thing of is if they are trying to cut down on the number of dossiers coming in, they could start enforcing this (again, just a wild idea that has ZERO credibilty behind it..just my guessing)

I suppose if China really wanted to slow down the amount of apps coming in, they could enforce this and get stricter with the health requirements.

I hope they don't

Hi all,

I was curious so I checked out the CCAA website. If you scroll down further on the faq page, you will find the following:

Is there any limits to the foreign adoption applicants who have already had
their own children to adopt children in China?
Date of Post?October 12, 2005 Source: CCAA
The CCAA shall give priority to the families who are childless or only have 1-2 children to adopt. As to the foreign adoptive families who have already had over 5 minors (5 inclusive) living together with their parents, CCAA shall not, in principle, make any arrangement for them to adopt children in China.

Hope this helps!

so they essentially contradict themselves on their own FAQ page

Which is fine by me

But what does priority mean? I think everything goes by LID. I doubt they divide piles of dossiers into with kids and without kids and put the childless people into an earlier group, people with 1-2 kids in another, and people with more than that into another.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall in the CCAA.

Thanks for pointing that out, marypat31

I believe that the CCAA had this on their site for a long time now. When we first started researching adoption ( a year or so ago) I looked at their website and almost crossed off China because of that statement. However- wehn i spoke to many agencies that I looked at- they all said you had to have less then four minors living at home.

Who knows- I bet they could enforce the rule now if they are trying to slow it down. For our sake- i hope they do not- I'd be out!
