Kid's music

I've enjoyed the toy thread-- Now how about music? Can you recommend some good kid's music that parents can enjoy, too?

Lydia loves the Wiggles. And I like them okay. I LOVE the Doodlebops and she likes them too. So we have both in her collection.

Our absolute 100% favorite around here is "HERE COME THE ABCs" by They Might Be Giants (yes, the same band you remember from your younger years).
This CD is hilarious in a very funky and offbeat way. The kids love it and DH and I do too. It's very different from the usual fare.
It is the only thing my friend's 17-month-old will listen to!
It has an accompanying DVD too.

When my children were young they always listened to Raffi - a singer/song writer of children's folk songs but really upbeat and fun. Songs such a "Baby Beluga" was always a favorite. I'm not sure of his first name but if you research Raffi or ask in a music store they should know when you tell them childrens music.

As a teacher, I love "Greg and Steve." The only place I have seen their music is through educational suppliers, but it is great. (Scratch that--Amazon has it.) Lots of fun!

I am another fan of Raffi. I remember him from when I was a kid and now my daughter loves him too.

He's kind of a folk singer for kids and reminds me a little bit of James Taylor. Just laid back and relaxing. I even enjoy the music.

Ditto what was said earlier about "Baby Beluga". That song sticks in my head for hours!

My ds (22 months) absolutely loves Laurie Berkner's music. Dh and I actually enjoy her music as well. She plays guitar and has kind of a folksy feel to her music. She does a mix of traditional children's songs and her own songs, and her lyrics can be really clever. Dh and I especially like "Doodlebugs," which features the names of the characters from "Seinfeld".

My 2 yr old nephew LOVES the song Warewolf in London by Warren Zevon. He will listen to it over and over again and howl the entire time. I bought him the CD for his birthday and my SIL put it on for him, BUT, the second song on the CD talks about rape or prostitution! SO, she recorded the song onto a CD by itself.. Oh well.. i just cant seem to win!

We often listen to an assortment of tunes by Pete Seeger and any musician who sings kids songs. Our 4 year old loves a musician named Dawnie and can listen to her for hours at a time!

Ha, RAFFI! I loved him. I used to listen to his tape on my Fisher Price tape player every night before bed. If I hear "Baby Beluga," it is stuck in my head for DAYS.

I also listened to Tom Chapin's tape when I was little - I forget the name of the tape. I saw him in concert, too, when I was in elementary school. (Maybe it was Harry Chapin? Either way, it was the brother of the guy who sang "Cat's Cradle.")

Beethoven's Wig

I love this CD. I actually bought it for a friend and listened to it myself for at least a month before I gave it to her. It's classical music with kid friendly lyrics to it. Imagine to Beethoven's Fifth

.... Beethoven's Wig... is very big...Beethoven's wig is very big it's very big. It's very big, Beethoven's wig...

There's one about the can- can girls in France. There's one to the William Tell overture. I promise it will send you into fits of giggles!

You can get it on any of the big websites, and in some children's boutique type stores.

We have xm radio. Almost ALWAYS we are playing the "xm kids" station. Has all of the above artists and more. Soooo worth the money.

It really helps when its clean up time.

Harry Chapin wrote/sang Cat's in the Cradle so you're talking about his brother Tom Chapin.
Harry's daughter Jen now is also in the music industry!
