I-600A application receipt?

I've turned my I-600A in to CIS and I know they've received it because I sent it certified mail.

But I thought CIS was suppose to mail me an application number at some point and the application number could then be used to track the I-600A. Is that right? I sent them a self addressed stamped envelope thinking it was. If I am right, how long before I receive that number?

Or is the only contact I should expect from CIS a request for fingerprinting and then ultimately the I-700?

Thanks for the advice!

I received a letter stating they received my application and money order. It took about 2 weeks or or to receive that. Hope this helps!

I didn't get any receipt, but I knew they got it when I saw my check had been cashed (right away!). The next notice I got from them was the fingerprint appt letter, but I guess it probably varies by USCIS office - mine was in Newark, NJ.

Good luck!

This must really vary by which office you are using. We received our fingerprinting letter and a little paper receipt with the amount of the money order. There wasn't anything with a number to track.

Our USCIS office doesn't send receipts with a tracking number (I think they call it an "A number") for I-600A.

Here's the conversation between the USCIS lady and me:
USCIS: We don't issue A Numbers for I-600A.
Me: Is there a way to track the status of my application?
USCIS: Yes, use your A Number.
Me: But I thought you said you don't issue an A Number for I-600A?
USCIS: That's right. We don't.
Me: So we can't track our application?
USCIS: Not unless you have an A Number.

Grrr...LOL! A year later, I am still a little irritated about USCIS!
So don't necessarily expect that you will get a receipt with a tracking number. But I do think some offices do send one, so hopefully yours does! Good luck.

We got a receipt first (no tracking number, though), and then later got our appointment letter for fingerprinting. We used the Atlanta office.

Ha ha! That is hilarious, and exactly what I'd expect from a govt agency!

We received our fingerprinting letter and a receipt with the amount of the money order. There wasn't anything with a number to track - and other than a time and place to go for fingerprints, that's all we got.

joyfulme3x - FYI - an A number is an Alien number that is given to immigrants when they are applying for legal immigration status. It is then the number that is permanently on their "Green card."
