What do I need to consider when choosing a homestudy agency?

Things to consider - price, although I'm not sure I would bargain shop. I found quite a price range. I think it depends on what area you are in. Mine was about 5-$600 more than the average in the area I live in. I don't think it got me anything more than any other but I really didn't wait long either. At the time I thought it was forever, but after reading everyone elses nightmares mine wasn't bad. My suggestion would be to try to find one in your area that someone has had good luck with. Ask questions like, timeframe (many do not stick with this though, but mine was right where they told me it would be). Also, things that are required like, inspections of your home, pet exams/clearances etc. Not all require these things. Also, make sure the agency has dealt with china homestudies specifically. International homestudies are different and require different things. Your placement agency should have a criteria/list for your homestudy agency to follow. Make sure and keep your homestudy agency up-to-date on exactly what is needed for your report and you'll have fewer problems later. Hope this helps. Kim

In addition to what Kim said above... which was very well stated... it may help too if the homestudy agency is accustomed to working/coordinating with the placement agency you've chosen.

The requirements vary somewhat from placement agency to placement agency, so if the homestudy agency is familiar with those requirements and/or maintains a positive working relationship with them, it can potentially avoid confusion or mistakes within your paperwork.
