Vacation

I'm taking a vacation - possibly permanent - from this board in light of the discriminatory practice that ensued yesterday (see the Very Active Thread post). I cannot support a practice that I would not want my future child to support.

Can the moderators explain why these threads are getting locked? Is there something wrong with saying that you are going to leave the forum?

I'm sorry to hear that people are leaving.

The last post on the very active thread is from Crick saying that the discusion was getting away from the topic and was turning not nice so they were going to close it and any others that delt with it. I looked earlier because I wondered the same thing about why discusion was being limited.

Well, I went and read the entire post that was linked. I am very discouraged at all the hatefulness that came forth from people.

I now see that the reason they are closing all the posts is so that the discussion doesn't open up again because it was not helpful and it was DEFINITELY not about the welfare of children.

The assumption started that if someone closed a forum, it meant he was biggoted. That could be true but it's still an assumption. THEN about 90% of the people assumed that if someone is a biggot it is because he is a Christian. I am absolutely horrified at this prejudice.

I have always thought that everyone was welcome here on this forum no matter what their background is. I feel that people could stay and work toward reinstating their specialized forum.

I don't know if I would be welcomed at their new forums because I am a Christian. Here, people may not like it but it is not an issue. I'm not on this board to talk about political issues and I won't storm off of it because of someone else's political views.

I will be staying here and I hope that those of us who stay can all get back to focusing on adoption and our children again.

Um, the forum closed was not political at all - it was all about parenting and child rearing in non traditional families. I'm sure there was discussion about how to deal with people who do not agree with choices, just like we talk about it here. Those who chose to leave do not support discrimination of any kind be it religious, age, lifestyle, gender, race, etc. You would all be very welcome at the new forum.

I didn't say anything about the forum. I've never visited it. I was talking about the thread.

I think there is a serious lack of information about WHY the forum was closed. Until it is clarified, I am not going to conclude that it was discrimination. I'm not going to make decisions based on limited information.

I guess that makes me the unpopular one but I happen to LOVE this forum and I'm grateful that it is here. I'm ready to get back to talking about our wonderful Chinese children.
