Talking My sister has received permission to travel to the Phillipinnes to meet her baby girl

It has been a long road for my sister and her family waiting to meet their baby girl, her paperwork was approved in March 2003, she received her referral on December 6, 2006, and has received permission to meet her daughter Claudia Jane, on April 3, 2006 this morning!

Claudia Jane, will be one year old on May 22nd. We are so blessed that she will be with her forever family as she turns one! Claudia has a 6 year old brother, who has been desperately waiting to meet his little sister--he is also adopted from the Phillippinnes, both children are from the same orphanage.

YAY!!!!!!!!! My husband, dd, and I will be traveling to NY in a few short weeks, to be waiting at JFK airport to greet them when they come through customs!

I was there when my nephew came home, and OH WHAT A MOMENT!!! Cannot wait to experience that joy again, and cannot wait for my husband to experience it this time around!!

Then, in a year from now or so: it will be OUR turn!! As we bring our "mei mei" home to America!!!

Just wanted to share my happy news for today!!!

catherine

Catherine,

That is so great! I have a little boy from the Philippines as well. We went to get him in Nov 2003. He is now almost 4 years old. He was 17 months at the time. He is such a great boy. I know girls are not that easy to get in the Philippines.

Wow! you guys are in international family!! That is awesome!!

All best wishes to your sister.

Gen

Thanks so much Gen! My nephew is truly the "other" man in my life other than my husband!

When he found out we are adopting from China, he wanted to know "Why China?" and he said with a little bit of Long Island/NY attitude so as to imply "What the Phillipinnes is not good enough for you Auntie?"

But he is pleased that he will have a sister from the Phillipinnes, a cousin from China, and another cousin from Florida!! (that's my 14 month dd that he adores)

Yes, we really are starting to have a real diverse family between my sister and I! We are Irish-Catholic, her husband is Italian and Puerto Rican, and my husband and daugter are Jewish! Makes for very interesting holidays!

Can't wait until all the cousins can be together in one room!

Are you adopting a baby from China? I am sure your son would be thrilled at the idea of a sibling? The Phillipines truly has some wonderful people, my parents are still in touch with the nun that helped raised my nephew, now 5+ years later. They are planning on taking him to see her when they go. She is now working with unwed birth mothers and takes care of them before and after their deliveries.

Do you think you may take your son back to the Phillipinnes one day?

Catherine

Congratulations!

Why did it take 45 months to receive a referral? Currently ICAB claims that referral times are 18-24 months.

It didn't take 45 months for referral..........

it took 21 months. March 2004 to March 2005=12 months
March 2005 to December 2005=9 mths.

OOPS! I just reread my original post, with all the excitement of the moment I added a year! She had her paperwork approved in March 2004! not 2003!

too much happiness on the brain today!

Yes we will be bringing our son with us in China to go get his little sister. I must say that my son Jeremy is really really looking forward to having a sister. He is such a good boy.

In our case, with my son, after 5 months into our wati for a referral, we got a phone call asking us if we were ready to be parents!! We were so surprised as they had told us it would not be before 12 months. Anyhoo!! We went to get him 4 months after that. So in total, 9 months after LID, we had our son! This time around, with our dd to be, it is taking longer! Who would have thought!!

Congratulations to your family for being such a loving one and for this new addition!

Gen

We were going to adopt from the Philippines. DH is 1/2 Filipino. So we thought that would help give us "an in" but they don't allow you to get ahead of others, which I can totally understand. Then our SW said it takes up to 30 months to get a referral! So that's why we changed to China. Our SW has a couple that's been waiting over 2 years already...they must have alot of patience Maybe for our 2nd child we'll go there to get a boy - boys are easier to get there.
