This is a horrifying story. Of course, adoptive parents in the U.S. or elsewhere cannot be blamed and need to remember that the majority of adoptions are likely legitimate and truthful. Hopefully, articles such as these will bring awareness to this issue and hopefully lead to more awareness in the U.S. (that will make agencies more careful in dealing with orphanages and adoption authorities in China) and stricter rules in China. There has been abuse in other countries, such as Guatemala, in this regard and apparently there is a bit more scruity over the process there. By the way, I am adopting from Poland and just visiting this site to see the issues of adoptive parents adopting from countries other than Poland (and adoptions from Poland are comparatively few so there is not a lot of traffic on the board!:-) ).
