Stop Using Enfamil Gentlease Lipil February 26, 2006 on 11:52 am | In Parenting News, All News, Feeding News | Comments Off Readers are hereby alerted to immediately stop using Enfamil Gentlease Lipil infant formula powder in 24-ounce cans, batch number BMJ19, with “use by July 07″ imprinting. The batch number imprint can be found on the underside of the can. California State Public Health Officer Dr. Mark Horton issued a warning about the product on February 23, 2006. The warning stated that the above batch of product contained hazardous pieces of metal, which if aspirated by a baby into its lungs, could cause dangerous reactions including coughing, difficulty swallowing or difficulty breathing. The warning requested consumers to immediately discontinue use. It also stipulated that consumers should discard the product or take it back to the place of purchase and ask for a refund. The manufacturer, Mead johnson Nutritionals, has confirmed the presence of the metals and issued a voluntary recall of the product. Starting December 16, 2005, more than 40,000 cans of the product were shipped all over the country to retailers including Wal-Mart, Target and Raley’s. An alert Rhode Island mother, Tammy Tryon, found the pieces of metal in the formula she was mixing. Showing commendable civic responsibility, she immediately contacted the manufacturer, Mead Johnson Nutritionals, resulting in the recall.
