Moving to Korean program
I introduced myself a couple of weeks ago and now I am saying goodbye as my family moves to the Korean adoption program. As we went further into the application process, we discovered that we did not meet China's asset/liability ratio requirements because of my dh's medical school loans, even though we far exceeded their income requirements. Although we were very disappointed, we have researched two other programs offered by our agency and are currently filling out our application to adopt from Korea. We feel confident in our new decision and are excited to get started. There are a lot of positives about the Korea program, including the fact that no official dossier is required! Best of luck to all of you!

Good Luck to you! The Korean program is also very stable and great. We almost went that direction as my husband lived in Korea for 6 months. The travel or escorting are appealing. But we have always been drawn to China. Anyway best of luck.

I wanted to let you know that there was a forum member that was paperchasing for an adoption but had to switch to Korea. Her dh had an old arrest but it wasn't 10 years old yet. Anyway they were officially waiting for a referral of a daughter as of 10-7-05. I thought you might like to send her a PM with any questions that you might have about making the switch. Her username is caseymunn.

Best of luck
Best of luck to you. I have heard wonderful things about the Korea program. It is very stable, the children are very healthy and you get a lot of medical info.
Hope your journey is quick and stress-free! |

China does not have official asset/liability ratios, although some agencies do. Check with a few China agencies before giving up.
Also, be aware that Korea's rules for adoptive families tend to be more strict than those of China. Be sure that your agency is willing to accept you to its Korea program and is sure that you qualify. Sharon

Sharon, that's interesting. I keep on hearing about a 10,000 per person income requirement. When I asked my social worker about it she said that she had never heard that. We make just under that amount, but have lots of assets. Our agency said this would be no problem. I wonder if this is an agency thing, not a China thing.

We have also been dealing with the huge debt from my wife's medical school loans. And believe me when I tell you, we have very little in the way of assets! We had no problems at all with the financial questions. We are currently, I hope, awaiting our referral in the next batch from the CCAA. PM me if you would like any specifics or if I can help you with any other questions. Good luck, no matter what program you choose! ![]() |
