Certification by Sec of State ??
Hi guys, just wondering if everyone mails/hand delivers (whichever applicable) all their dossier documents to the Sec of State all at once, or is it better to do it "piece meal" as you get your documents. Such as Bc/mc, employment ltrs, med reports, etc. etc. Thx. Kim

Hi,
I guess it depends where you are in the process and whether you have the option to walk them thru. I walked all my documents thru. It took three separate visits but I got it done. I just felt more comfortable walking them thru.

Hi Kim,
I did all my documents at once. I mailed off my out of state ML and BCs, and then I hand-carried the rest to my SOS. I did this while waiting for my 171. I had my entire dossier authenticated and in critical review when I received my 171. I then couriered it thru, and was DTC w/in 2 days of my agency getting it. I think it is a time saver to have the dossier ready to go while waiting on the 171. Hope the rest of the chase goes smoothly, and you are soon DTC! ![]()

If you're doing the mailing route (some states do not accept walk in's so check beforehand) it's best to just mail them all together to limit fedex/ over night shipping charges.

it also depends on how many states you have to send them to. we ended up with 4 (our birth certificate were MI and IL) and the rest of our docs were split between NH and MA. so i sent them off as i got all of the docs from that state (likewise i sent the consulate stuff off in batches-we had to use NYC and Chicago).
the fedex charges really do add up though... we have everything back from the chicago consulate at this point, and all of our NH docs certified at the state leve and are just waiting on MA to get those back so they can go off to NYC.... |

I live in AZ and some of my DOC's had to go to other states. I mailed each item as it was ready.

We were lucky that all our paperwork went to the same Secretary of State (IL). We walked them in all at once after getting our I-171, waited about 20 minutes for them to be done, then took everything in person to the Chinese consulate in Chicago. The consulate sent them back to us via Priority Mail (we brought along a paid envelope) a few days later!

We did ours as we got all of the items for that particular SOS office. We were only dealing with 2 states, but we got all of our Louisiana documents first and went on and sent those. For the Georgia documents, we waited on our I-797 and then sent all of them at once. Our agency is small and only sends dossiers once a month, so it wasn't worth it for us to do it a piece at a time.
