Wink The things children say..........

My 6 year old nephew, who is adopted from the Phillipinnes, and is currently waiting for travel authorization for his sister to come home from the Phillipinnes sometime within the next 2 months.......

asked my sister, "Why is Auntie adopting from China mom?"

"Her baby will speak Chinese, not English!"

When she told him they don't speak english in the Phillipinnes either and you seem to speak english very well, he responded with an "Oh!"

Kind of cute no?

When I spoke to him after she told him that we planned to adopt from China, he wanted to know "why China? (meaning why not the Phillipinnes Auntie!?!) A little Mayor of the World, my nephew is!!

Aww, that IS cute! He sounds liek a sweetie!

Just wait though -- not so cute out of adults who ask in front of your child if they speak (and or spoke) English ...

foxl,

so very true--adorable from a 6 year old, infuriating from an adult!

I am curious to hear his reaction of the Phillipinnes and his orphanage (his sister is waiting in the same orphanage that he was in), I think it will be a true eye opener for my little man!

I love how little ones minds work!
Last night my 4 year old said he hoped God would give him dark-skin like Hannah (a little girl he met who was adopted from China). When I asked why, he said because that would mean he would be older! Ahhh, the sweetness!

If we all could maintain a child's sweetness and innocence the world would be a better place

Last fall when my little mam was turning 4 he asked why his birthday was in August. I told him that was the day he decided to come out of my tummy and be born. He got a funny look on his face and said "I didn't want to be born I wanted to come from China".

Our oldest DS, Dylan always thought that we had went to Wal-Mart and bought him off the shelf. I do not know how he came up with this idea but he very much believed it to be true.
When he was 4, I became pregnant with our youngest DS and Dylan was not happy about not being an only child anymore. One day while sitting out on the porch swing with him he asked me to please take the baby (I was still pregnant) back to Wal-Mart. I told him I am sorry but babies do not come form WM to which he replied well how about K-Mart. Me-nope they don't take babies at K-Mart either. Dylan then named off every shopping place that his little 4 year old mind could think off-JCPenney, Fred's, Dollar Store, etc.
BTW he loved his baby brother once he seen him

My nephew who was ten at the time totally destoyed a special lesson his teacher had prepared in his class. Her questions were.

Can anyone guess where I'm going on vacation?
Can anyone guess what I am going to do while I am there?
Can anyone guess what I will bring back with me?

He had just been explained about our adoption so he fires off "China! Are you going to adopt a girl? Are you bringing home a little girl?" I guess the teacher thought he was psychic for a few minutes and it freaked her out. Hee hee.

I felt bad for her that she had her thunder stolen like that.

These are way too cute!

From my niece, 3 at the time: "Mommy, who picked my hair color?"
Mom: "God did, honey."
S: "Well He was wrong! I wanted blonde hair!"

Kids are way too funny!

Kids are so cute: We recently traveled with our daughter to Hawaii so she could meet her cousins. The youngest who recently turned 5 said to me in confidence that she had learned some Chinese words in school so she could talk to her new cousin from China. I told her Becky didn't really understand many Chinese words but did speak and understand many english words. She said "but auntie she is from China doesn't she speak Chinese"? She also wanted to bring Becky to school for show and tell. We were there during Chinese New Years and her class had been doing a lesson on the subject. When we arrived the kids where so excited as they had a suprise for Becky. They had been practicing a lion dance to perform for her. Becky loved it clapping and saying more so they did it again for her. We were able to share pictures of China and Becky brought fourtune cookies as her treat to share. I know they are not really Chinese but they went over big with the 5 yr olds! Becky is only just turning two so although she didn't quite understand all the excitement she did have a lot of fun!

I wish it were that easy

When we first landed in Japan. I said excitedly to my then 5-year-old son, "We're in Japan!!" He said, "How come we aren't speaking Japanese?"

I have a new one to add, happened lastnight. I had been going through photo albums and dh and I were talking about how big Marcus was when he was first born. Well that started the whole 'how did I get out of mommy's tummy thing'. Dh mentioned how they pulled my skin up (C-ection) so the doctor could reach in and get Marcus. Well Marcus's eyes got real big listening to this story then looked at me and so seriously said "mommy are you ok?". I LMBO after almost 8 years I have recovered as much as I ever will.
