I hope someone can answer a question for us. I am 50 and my husband is 51 we would like to adopt from China. We have gotten different answers from several agencies. We are flexible with age but I would like one under 2. If you have an agency that you worked with that allows older parents please PM me.

Any agency that promises any specific age of baby isn't telling you the truth. The agencies are not in charge of the referral of a child. The agency handles your paperwork and "presents" it to China After reviewing your file (anywhere from 6-12 months has been the rate over the last couple years) then CHINA refers you a child. It is completely up to China.
Now you has several places in your paperwork where you can request a certain age and in most cases it seems that China will try to meet your request. But there are certainly times when the age ends up being not what was requested. Pick an agency that meets your other requirements (big vs small; sends dossiers every week vs once a month;calls you and checks in vs waits for you to call.....costs....) Good Luck with your journey. I hope you can find an agency you like, we are waiting to return to China for our second adoption next winter we hope. Diana |

China STATES that married couples 50-54 must be "open" to a child over three.
But this does NOT mean that a couple will get a child over age three. There are relatively few preschoolers among the CCAA's child dossiers, because many orphanages don't send dossiers of children this age, thinking that foreigners won't adopt them. As a result, quite a lot of older couples have received children in the 13 mo. to 3 year age bracket, and quite a few of the children have been under two. Unfortunately, some agencies won't accept couples who are 50+, unless they want preschoolers or school aged children. However, most agencies with China programs will accept older couples, as long as they understand that China may or may not refer them a child under age two. Sharon Sharon

Ditto to the above. The age of the child is a request. The CCAA determines the child and age of the child, not your agency. It is true, if you are over 50, you need to be open to a referral of a child up to 3 years of age.
Sorry, but that is how it is! Laura |
