DH and I are just starting the process and I'm wondering how old your child was at referral and when you brought her home. We are looking to adopt an infant and I'm just curious what everyone has experienced.

We received our referral on 1/25 and we requested a AYAP - 6-12 mts. We were referred a baby that was 9 mts old - almost 10 mts. We are so in love. We think that she will be close to one year by Gatcha Day.

We were referred our daughter in the end of May 2005 and got her just slightly over the 11 month mark in July when we travelled. She turned 1 year old 5 days after we got her home.

We asked for a healthy baby girl - age 6 months to 14 months. We were referred a 13 month old healthy girl who was 14 months when we adopted her.


This has been discussed before but please keep in mind that a child under two has lots of "baby" in them and your heart won't feel like it's missing anything if your child is slightly older.

Babies are tending to be a bit younger in the last few referral batches. I don't know what causes that trend or if it will keep up. I wish all babies could be adopted very young so they'd not have to spend an extra minute in an orphanage but (for whatever reason) they seem to be around a year old.

Our 2nd daughter will be about 2 and a half years old when we bring her home.

We requested a child AYAP under 18 months. Lilly was almost 13 months at referral and just past 14 months when we met.

We requested a healthy infant girl as young as possible up to 15 months of age. Whitley was 9 months at referral and was 10.5 when we traveled.

Our dd was 6 months old at referral and 7.5 months on Metcha Day.

Our DD was 11 months at referral and was 12.5 months when she was placed in our arms. And I have to say there was plenty of baby-time left.

There does seem to be an ongoing trend of babies being referred at 8 or 9 months.

Our baby girl was almost 10 months at referral and almost 12 months on the day she was placed in our arms. In fact we celebrated her 1st birthday in China. She was very much a baby though. She was not walking and could barely sit up without support. She was still using a bottle and formula although she was showing an interest in table food. She could not roll over yet and was only 13 pounds and 24 inches long. Now at 23 months other than being a little small for her age she is all caught up. All she needed was a lot of attention and encouragement from us.
